Ingrown Hairs?
« on: January 02, 2008, 06:02:22 AM »
Hey guys, I have his problem that is preventing from being sly everyday.  Seems like I can only become sly once every 4 or 5 days and it sucks.  See when I shave it's great perfectly clean skin and sly, about 12 hours later though when it starts growing back in I get a bunch of red dots and sometimes patches that hurt a little bit.  This prevents me from re-upping on the shave like most of you guys do.  It's pretty annoying to say the least, does anyone have any advice or share this problem?  Maybe there is a product out there to prevent ingrown hairs.  Is that even what it is?! For those that are consistently sly I salute you!   O:O  Thanks in advance

HeadBlade makes a product called ClearHead Anthony, but it is probably impossible to get in Russia.  Try a cold water rinse immediately after shaving to reduce irritation and then applying either Witch Hazel or an Aloe Vera lotion may help.

Thanks Paul for the advice, I'm going to try to find that stuff.  Russia is crazy bro, you can't find anything you have to go to like a market w/ like a thousand people on an epic quest lol.

I dont want to rain on your parade bro, I tried ClearHead and it didn't work.  I hope that it's just on an individual basis and it works for you, it's like using a mild version of rubbing alcohol to clean/open pores....

I've suggested this to Nick, and maybe it will work for you, if you can get it in Russia, 10% Benzoyl Peroxide gel, after shaving and a louffa pad rub in the shower.

There's also a product called Tend Skin (http://www.tendskin.com) that is good.  I've used it a couple of times and it worked.  Though, again I'm not sure how easy it will be for you to get it.

Suck it up man!  Shave everyday!  Just kidding, I used to get huge bumps/ingrown hairs when I only shaved every few days.  Once I started shaving everyday, they quit for the most part.  Now I only get one every once in a great while.  Good luck O0

Only been sly for almost 2 weeks now but for what it's worth I get some irritation on the sides of my head right after shaving too.  I started blending 50/50 vitamin E sensitive skin hand lotion and pure aloe gel (with out dye or scent).  Knocks the razor burn down asap and does not cost much.

Also found that if i put conditioner on the stubble and let it work prior to shaving i get less bumps.  This is the first time I've used conditioner since the mullet days....  ::)

Same here, the only times I've had problems are the few times that I've skipped a day shaving.

Anthony,

I found that very cold water on the head after shaving closes up your pores pretty good before they have a chance to inflame.  Also, I found that not rubbing/pulling your scalp during and just after the shave helps keep the hairs from dipping into the pores..  So when you're drying your head, pat it with the towel, don't rub; and don't pull the skin tight when you shave...

Now, after a few hours have passed, I usually go mad with scrubbing my head to get the dead skin off--by then, the hairs have grown long enough not to fall into the pores and the scrubbing might loosen early bumps..

Its always tempting to get that super close shave, but sometimes it gets you in the end..

I never did have luck with 3 bladed razors though, might want to try a single blader?

Best of luck man!

Anthony every one has posted some good solutions.

If I can throw my two cents in, depending how fanatical of a headshaver you are(some shave twice a day), You might want to wait 2 days between shaves to see if you get a smoother shave without the ingrown hairs. The razor seems to have more hair to grab onto. Might work for you.

Thanks for all the suggestions, they are all great.  My scalp is looking pretty jacked up so I'm going to give it a day before I try round 2.
