Oh yeah....I fulfilled that back in the beginning of April by going from 253 to 238 (15 lbs, remember).

From there I went on to lose another 9 lbs.....for a total of 24lbs.

I've got plenty more to shed.....switching to night work's still got me topsy tervy on where to schedule other sh*t so I'm in sort of a "holding pattern" on the program.....keeping off (for the most part) what I lost.

Send your access poundage to me. I've always been too skinny. I tried for 3 years to bulk up and failed. My strenghth doubled, but my scrawny stature stayed the same. I do think its halarious when I'm at the gym waiting for some muscle head to get done with a machine and he finishes his set and says to me " you can drop it down to what ever you like" and I jump in and move the same amount of weight he had on with out breaking a sweat.
usually after he's been gruntin like a pig. Even had a good lookin lady tell me once, off to the side," you made him look like an ass!"

OK....so my fitness goals and challenges have shifted to and fro....

Now I'm facing one of the fiercest challenges, fitness-wise, I've ever done because of the short time frame to train.......the Sheriff's Dept. physical fitness test.

The push-ups and sit-ups won't be a problem:

Have to do 13 push-ups in under a minute and 25 sit-ups in under a minute.

What will be tough is getting my 6'1", 240 lb carcass around a track 6 times in under 15 minutes.......that's 1.5 miles @ an average of 6.1 - 6.2 mph steady.   For you lanky runner-types, that's probably a breeze.

My progress is good.  I started on July 30th just doing 1 lap at the needed pace and the other 5 laps at a "sane" pace.    Now I'm up to 4 laps at the necessary pace and 2 at the sane pace....but it is absotively, possolutely B-R-U-T-A-L!!!

I have two weeks to add the last two laps (test is on Sat. 9/22)....it'll be one of the hardest things I've ever done...but I think I just might pull it off, baby.

Maybe some of you experienced runners could help me hear (or point me to an article), but I found that I burned out more quickly when I came "outa the gate" right at the 6.1 - 6.2 mph.   What I been doin is doin' a lap @ like 5.6, next lap @ 5.8, next @ 6.0, next @ 6.2......then the last 2 (theoretically at this point) @ 6.4 then 6.6-------that's an average of 6.1 mph.

(On the track I use a stop watch to hit the laps at the right times.)

Any thoughts?

Hey Paul....how'bout takin' this one to yer church prayer chain, man (really)

Just wanted to stop in and say good luck man.  I know you can do it bro.  I'll be praying for you man.  Definitely post back up and let us know the outcome bro.  If it doesn't go your way there is always other testings I'm sure.  Don't give up if it's something you really want to do.  I can probably benefit from those exact words, huh.

Got ya covered there RM.   Also if endurance is the problem, need to be running LONGER distances (time & distance)  at the "sane" pace.  This should build the cardio-respiratory system up for the needed "push" when you need it.

Paul is exactly right. However, (not to be a smart azz) running is a lot easier if you drop a few lbs. Although my cardio is pretty damn good, I'm carrying a few extra lbs (too much good food these days) and the 4 milers are a little tougher than they should be.

If you have access to one, I would suggest running on a treadmill set at a 3.5 to 5.0 degree incline. If it's raining, I'll do treadmill work and always have it at some level of incline.

Good luck Rob.
