Getting Rid of the Shadow
« on: December 27, 2007, 03:50:36 PM »
Hey guys...this is my first post...I have been shaving my head for a little over six months and can't ever seem to get rid of of my shadow. I have dark brown hair so this may be the problem...I currently use a Mach3 razor, and sometimes use a headblade...I have tanned quite a bit, but for some reason I can't seem to get my head to stay as tan as my face. Any suggestions, or anyone with any similar experiences? Thanks in advance.

In Christ,
Brady

Brady, welcome to Sly Bald Guys!

Many guys have a hard time gettng rid of the shadow if they are BBC and have really dark hair with lighter skin.  The best things you can do is slowly get a tan and work to the the closest shave possible.

One of the newer guys, ncblue, has been getting some good results from using Jergen's Natural Glow Lotion.  Check out this thread - http://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/index.php?topic=3916

Welcome Brady!

Looking good SLY brutha! I agree, the ultimate would be a COMPLETELY bald head with no shadow, but I can feel your pain...like Tyler said NCblue had something that kinda works...

there's always tweezing and Lazer and both were done by some dudes here with great results..

Tell ME if you ever find something WE haven't thought of to make a shaved head look REAL bald!

Keep it smooth bro! O0

Yes. Brady you have hit the nail on the head re: shadow. It is the bane and curse of every headshaver. Some guys who shave off very fair or grey hair really dont have a shadow problem.

This bothered me quite a bit the first 4-6 months of shaving but eventually, like BALDANDRE said, unless you try the permanet hair laser removal or tweezing, there isnt anything you can do to get rid of it entirely.

I find using a high gloss moisteurizer helps minimize it considerably. Also try waiting a few days between shaves. This gives more hair for the razor to grab onto thus minimizing the shadow as well.

Welcome, Brady!

Shadow is annoying at first, but many just get used to it after some time. I'd like to get rid of shadow, but I don't really think about it much anymore.

Hey, Brady,

I have the same problem.  I have really dark hair and the shadow is always there.  After 2 years, there doesn't really seem to be anything you can do about it.

Welcome aboard!

Welcome Brady!

Nothing better than a dark tan to hide the shadow.
Nothing says 'God loves you' more than a bald man in mirrored sunglasses.

Whoever comes up with the absolute solution to "shadow" should get a Nobel prize, but until then, keep it smooth.  I notice the MPB lines when I get significant stubble, hopefully greying--I've got that too--will lessen the effect.  But in the end, shadow is better than a dying mop with the bald areas and hole in the head.  That's what 2 1/2 months have taught me.

I'm sly for more than a year and still have a shadow, but it doesn't bother me.

Welcome to the forum Brady.  No real "cure" for the shadow except to get a good tan or go grey.

no cure bro. besides, if that pretty lady in your picture doesn't mind it, then it should not bother you what others say.

To me though...having the shadow isnt such a bad thing.  It is there to show people that you CHOOSE to shave.  Not that you are naturally bald.  So look at it from the other side....its liberating.

I wondered about the "shadow" when I first started shaving.  I thought the smoothness would last a while, but soon learned by lunchtime I had the "shadow".

I tried shaving it smoother, but it didn't matter, cause a few hours later the stubble returned and with it, the "shadow".

I have since given up and only shave "with the grain" now.  It's quicker, easier and it's bald enough for me.  Long live the "shadow".

I've only been doing this for two weeks, so take what I say with a grain of salt.....

Plus, my wife thinks I am a complete idiot at the moment...

She must think of this place as the "Idiot Asylum" then...lots of dudes shaving their heads bald...and they don't have too! ;)
