redheaded and pale: how much harder is it to be bald for us?
« on: November 30, 2007, 11:11:22 PM »
i have (or had) red hair and have quite pale skin, so my question is: how much will it stink to be bald (which i will be completely in a few years)? i am worried that i won't be able to live in super sunny climates like LA or Miami, and that I will always have to wear hats when I go out in the sun. i already have had some bad sun burns on my head, such as 1 time when i was in the sun for an hour or 2 and got bad zits all over the top of my forehead (i still have some hair that protects the top of my head). thanks for the help!

I'm in the same boat.  You just need to be diligent about applying sunscreen and wearing a hat outdoors in the sun.   You learn to adjust.  It may "stink", but that's the reality of what we need to deal with.  What alternative is there?  Even if you have a full head of hair, you still need to be careful about sun exposure, especially if you are fair-skinned.

Hey Boss, welcome to Sly Bald Guys!  Like RaxorX said, you just have to be diligent about using sunscreen, but then again, all of us should.  I think with you having red hair will be better for you in not having to deal with a dark "shadow" that a lot of us with dark hair get.
People are not limited by the circumstance that they are born in. They are limited by the size of their dreams. Show them that their dreams can have no limits and in turn their accomplishments can be limitless.

Excellent point, Tyler.  Why didn't I think to mention that?   B@n%

From a veteran ex red head to the newbie. STAY OUT the damn sun Bela Lugosi !!!!  It's like that movie where the Vampires wear sunscreen like it's spackle to go out in the daylight. SPF 5000!!!! You could just wear a hat, but then your head wouldn't match your crispy lobster body.

so, basically, stay inside for the rest of my life, especially if i live in a sunny climate? i might as well stop living right now! i actually get sunburned on my head just from sitting inside, i'm hoping that will stop as time goes on. if i look wierd from wearing a hat too much, i guess i'm just gonna have to accept looking sorta weird for the rest of my life in that way! damn!

Welcome Theboss.. I wouldn't go as far as stay inside.. but.. be carefull

Me for example Ihave dark black hair, wich I shave off ..pale skin also. In the summertime I have a bottle of sunscreen in my Jeep, and some at home. I never leave home without it. I by the 50 protection more expensive but not zits, or bumps on my head cause of the sun. after a few hours I'll just throw on a cap but not for long.

Me it's the winter time that's the worst cause My hair lines shows off allot.. even if I shave you see where my hair is. But I stil refuse to let it grow..

Well "Boss", Welcome Aboard , I'm Porky and I seem to be the resident SMART ASS , so... the way I look at this situation you sort of have 3 options  1) as already stated , you could become a vampire, and do what they do  2) you could move to Alaska where its dark 6 months a year but then ya need a beanie to stay warm  BUT... ya wont get sunburned  or 3) you can convert to JUDIASM and wear a YAMAKIH (?)  BUT hang in there, AND here and I'm SURE that you'll find some USEFULL info as far as sunscreen's and such because as dense as I AM, im kinda thinkn that youre NOT the first fair skinnd red head to ever go SLY   C#)P  PORKY

so what should i being doing on my typical day? if i wear a hat whenever i am outside, will i have a really odd looking tan line on my forehead? likewise, if i don't wear a hat, will i get burnt? are there hats i can wear that protect my whole face?
(i hate this part of going bald, b/c everyday i have to think about what is going to happen when i am fully bald)

Hey Boss, Welcome to the insanity!
I think you should look into the Matte for Men product if you don't want the harsh sunscreen smell. I can't imagine how you burn in the house unless your sitting by a older window that does not block out the UV sunlight, the older windows will actually intensify the suns uv rays. I live in the south and see alot of red head fair skin people who go outside all the time, some hot lookin women too! >:D I think your skin will "adjust" to the exposer, you just need to slowly build up and use lotions to keep the moisture in. There are alot of products out there that work, you just have to try the different combinations until you find the right ones. Talk to a pharmacist at CVS and get some ideas, will save you money on a dermatologists. In this day and age there are plenty of plyable options, you just need to educate yourself on them. So don't move, don't become a hermit, and start living man!!!!  8)

I'm redhead and fair skinned also! Even with hair I had to watch it!
The only solution with anybody is sunscreen and a hat and sunglasses!
Key though for me is good sunscreen !
