Dangit guys.  With all of you talking so great about this stuff I'm going to have to get it back out of storage and give it another go.

Lance, I don't think you'll be disappointed.  I really didn't even notice the smell until you guys mentioned it.  It really isn't that bad and the benefits far outweigh the any bad odor.

OK, SLYinKC buddy, with yours and many other endorsements, it's got to be good stuff. I've seen it for months in the shaving aisle, but always pass on it. It's pretty inexpensive, too. Anyone use it on their face as well? I'll have to report back. O0

I use it on my face and dome.  I was always getting alot of nicks and cuts around my jaw line with shave gel and I've been smooth and "nick or cut free" with the Shave Secret.

I like adding a few drops of it to HeadSlick. Man, it works great.  By itself, its ok.  I also have used plain old olive oil in the same way and it works great also.  A few drops of that with the Headslick and a fresh Schick Extreme and I am one slick skinhead

I don't know how I feel about this stuff. I used about 10 drops, and there was a lot of razor drag, and I cut myself once (haven't done that in about 9 months). This is the first time I've ever used a shaving oil, so maybe I did it wrong. It said to massage it into your hands and area to be shaved... and that's what I did. On the other hand, it seemed like I got a better shave with less passes. Should I just put it in my hand and  then rub it onto my scalp? Or really try to work it in?

Cam did you use an old blade? thats what usually causes blade drag.
When i use it I make sure my hands and head are wet and rub it in real good and reapply water as I go. No nick or drag at all and the smell isn't bad at all.

Actually, I did. I usually change my blade once a week (usually Saturdays) or else it irritates my head. I forgot to change it before I shaved tonight. I'll give it another go tomorrow with a new blade. Thanks for the reminder!

I got this stuff back out of storage and gave it a try this morning.  It did, as before, gave a good shave.  The smell was still a little on the strong side for me but I could probably get use to it.  But something I didn't notice before...Does anyone have a clue of the actually ingredients in this stuff.  I mean, I'm not a health freak(no offense to any who are) but if you read the package all it says is something about "clove" and something else.  Then just states, "other oils."  I've looked on their web site too and can't find any exact ingredients.  I guess no biggie since people have been using it and it gives a great shave.  But I just would prefer to know exactly what I'm putting on my skin.  I went under the contact link on their site and have wrote them to ask this question.

Clove oil, menthol, peppermint oil, I suppose the base is mineral oil. I like using cream over it for a visual aid.

  • It is better to be a has-been than a never-was.
I've used Shave Secret for years (first on my face, now on my head too).  10 drops covers the whole area.  I just rewet if after the first pass to do my touch up.

Lance, I haven't done any research, but I'd bet the oil products are more natural than creams or gels.

Actually it states on the box "contains no mineral oil" to not clog pores.

I was just over at the shave secret site again and didn't notice this the first time.  This is a statement at the bottom of their page:

Damn!  Can't get anymore blunt than that.

I didn't post this up to offend anyone either so, sorry if I did.
