« on: November 11, 2007, 06:49:22 PM »
I have a tax, accounting & financial planning business and wanted to see if there were any others out there doing the same?

Just getting ready to go to software training and get the last bit of CE for the year in the 4th quarter.

I'm currently in the Accounting module of my Business course. Can't say I enjoy it, I would rather pay another 10k tuition than take it!

I've never done any tax work and I am way behind on my CPE credits this year, but one more day-long seminar and one more self-study course are all I need to do before the end of the year.  If you're looking for an easy and inexpensive way to fulfill your CPE requirements, try www.cpeworld.com.  I've been very pleased with them.  Just finished one course last week and I'm hoping to get another one done by the end of this week.

I'm a CPA, but work in the audit field.  I too am trying to get CPE before the end of the year.  PPC has some good self study that are fairly inexpensive.  I actually report every other June 30th, so I have a little time to get mine in.  I have one seminar scheduled next week and may get another before year-end.

My background is in corporate accounting and finance.

Up until January I was doing financial planning seminars on safe money strategies.

It is not for everyone...stick to the technology and reinventing the headblade type tings and you will go far!

Hey SlyinKC - I am working on an audit right now of a small contractor. Paid out 700K in subs in 2005 (and 2004, and 2006) without issuing a single 1099...there are going to be some pissed off people when he sends them a 1099 now...

Robmeister - how come you stopped doing the seminars? We did seminars for about 4 years on Tax Strategies and Estate Planning. They went well but shifted away from those as the business shifted a bit...

Long story short....I was working for a firm under whose tutelage I got into some powerful strategies and learned the ins-and-outs of doing seminars.

I planned on really getting my feet wet and saving $$$$ with this firm and then eventually starting my own firm (and not have to split commissions).

After just a year with this firm, the owner got in trouble with the regulatory powers that be and my lawyer advised me to run for the hills before any of the "problems" stuck to me.   So I was out of the nest before growing the feathers I needed (i.e. growth capital).

Since January I've been in a holding pattern as far as starting my own firm.
