Shaved Head Implants
« on: November 25, 2006, 11:01:26 AM »
I just read an "article" on Halfbakery on Shaved Head Implants.

This is a quote from the site:

Quote
subdermal implants on the scalp that mimic hair stubble

This idea is for bald men to look like they have the stubble of a shaved head on their bald areas. Tiny black hypoallergenic flakes are implanted into the skin. This makes the skin resemble a shaved head.

Implants are already popular among the piercing/tattoo crowd, so there is nothing new as far as implanting small artificial objects in the skin.

Of course it would take a lot of time to implant enough flakes to mimic shaved hair, but then so does implant surgery, etc.

What do you think of this?

 >:( A truly dopey idea. Artificial stubble is ass-backwards. The perfect bald dome would be utterly hairless--Medic comes very close. The idea is to shine and, if possible, to defeat the velcro and shadow. Thanks for your responses to my blahs yesterday. Better today. My wife, who's been on exactly the same page that I've been on regarding the new image, called from the  car a few minutes ago to tell me that she'd pulled up along side a gent in a Mercedes sportscar with a beautiful chrome dome, but  that my dome is better shaped. Now that's praise! Professor Melon

always go with the lady's opinion, especially if she is your wife.

That's almost as bad as a guy who gets pectoral implants.

I'm all for personal expression and physical manipulation, but that just sounds dumb. I am very interested and into body modification, tattoos, piercing, implants, branding, suspension, you name it. I really appreciate anyone who is willing to exercise their own personal control over what their body will look like.

At the same time I tend to think of anyone who does any of the “cosmetic surgery” type modification (including hair plugs and whatnot) as just being “vain”, while I don’t think that about someone who is heavily tattooed or pierced.

I have sat in the waiting room of a piercing studio with a guy waiting for magnetic implants for his hand, a girl getting her genitals pierced for the 3rd time, another guy getting a check up after having his tongue split a couple of weeks before and were discussing how “The Enigma” had just had ball bearings implanted under his scalp to give him the appearance of “horns” (Just another step in a LOOONG line of body mod for that guy). When this small group of trust fund mall crawlers teetered in on their high heels asking in giggling voices about having their navels pierced “I mean like, does it hurt?...like, a lot?”.

One of the girls had obviously very very fake breasts and after she left the whole group rolled their eyes and we all commented on her boob job (in a critical, why would you DO that kind of way). Then we all paused... looked around at each other, taking in where we were sitting, looking from tattoos to nose rings and so on and started to laugh.

Body mod is body mod, some of us choose to use it to conform less to standard cultural stereotypes, some use it to become MORE like the current media norm. But we all use it to try and look the way WE want to look. To each his own.

All that having been said, I still think implanted stubble is just dumb. But I guess if you have enough surplus cash, you are free to do any dumb thing you like.

That made me laugh, but it must have been an odd moment for people in that room.

OK I just laughed again. That was a great story, that sounds like it could be in a movie or on South Park. Thanks for sharing.

And since Noner is a world famous comedian... something along those lines will be in his stand-up soon!  ;D

Ah, Professor you're too kind!  But I too have the shadow.  Its much more pronounced in the winter months, as probably is most peoples.  However, I certainly would not have a shadow implanted.  The idea is absurd.

I wouldnt do it myself, but if it looked completely real, I wouldnt think anything less of someone who did it.

So am i right in thinking most people's priority would be to get rid of the shadow altogether rather than to have a stubble effect all over?  That makes me feel kinda daft, cos when my hair was degenerating one of the things i was most worried about was the fact that it was going about 25% of the way down the sides as well as the top - but it seems that perhaps just perhaps that is a good thing ;)
