Politics
« on: November 08, 2007, 10:26:47 AM »
I know that it's the height of the political season and that it dominates many of our media outlets right now.  This gives many of us the itch to discuss politics with anyone we can so that we can justify the reason that we're going to vote they way we are, or can justify our own views even if we don't live in the country that we're discussing the politics of.

Even though you have the itch, please do not scratch it here.  Seriously, it only degrades the camaraderie of the group because people have their opinions that were often formed in their early years and you're just not going to change them.

So, if you really want to scratch the itch, I recommend posting up at a site called http://TreesAndThings.com.  It's a political discussion board that one of my friends helps run.  They have very thought out discussions on politics and are always looking for more people to do the same.  It's a little tilted on the sides of the democrats over there, but my friends really hopes that he can attract more republicans to help stop the group think that can often occur.  Right now there's an interesting post on How To Save Conservatism From The Republicans (http://treesandthings.com/story/2007/10/30/185953/87) that I think both sides of the fence could really enjoy debating.

I agree wholeheartedly, Tyler. This topic almost always ends up in some form of argument. Better to keep it off the forum.   O0

Couldn't agree more! We don't need the camaraderie here to be spoiled by people getting sour over political discussions!
Life has three aspects: Paradox, Humor, and Change.

Paradox: Life is a mystery; don't waste time figuring it out.
Humor: Keep a sense of humor, especially about yourself. It is a strength beyond all measure
Change: Know that nothing stays the same.

Hey Tyler.

Great decision.  I remember the trouble I caused with my Michael Vick thread.  I can only imagine what trouble a political thread would cause.

Thanks again for this board.   O0

Have enough drama in my life already T.   great call.   And thanks for the heads up on place to play if we DO have something that needs to be said.

on a site like this the written word, with these discussions can get real twisted real quick. and Ty's great decision to ban this is a great idea. We have already seen the little things start to go the wrong way.

Great points Tyler...  It's definitely not worth disrupting the "camaraderie of the group" as a result of political indifferences.
