New Shave routine-give it a few days.
« on: November 05, 2007, 03:47:43 PM »
To borrow a quote from my fellow brother in Sly,Warhawk, hello fellow chrome domes.

I've not been on the forum very much for the last few weeks..I've been busy moving into a new house and all the hassles that come with it. Also looking into buying a new car.

I remember the subject being discussed on a previous topic I believe by RazorX but I have since found a new shaving technique that has given me the smoothest shave ever with no cuts. I let the stubble grow out for 2 or so days.

I know for a dedicated headshaver this is bordering on sacrelig however I have found that because the razor has a decent amount of hair to actually cut, I get a better shave, less shadow and more importantly, a lot longer before the stubble comes in!(12-15 hours) When I was shaving twice a day, I was getting cuts and nicks occasionaly and at my 9am shave, I would have bad shadow and stubble by 4 or 5.

Anyone else adhere to this type of headshaving practice?

JDog, It's good to have you back.  Your absence was noticed.  Glad you've found a good routine.  I've also noticed the improved shave when I get a little bit of growth.  It would just take a change of habit to get into this routine and to get used to more stubble.

Glad to see you're back.  Congrats on the new house.  Sounds like you have alot of changes going on in your life.  Remember, we're all here for you if you need a release of stress.

Welcome back JDog, nice to see you're all settled in.  I too let the stubble grow out for a couple days.  I actually sync up my shaving to coincide with any major public events I may have.  For instance, this week I have a Mellencamp concert to go to on Friday, so I shaved yesterday (Sunday), then I'll shave either Tuesday or Wednesday, with a good shave on Friday morning.

jdog....1st of all welcome back.  your brief absence was def. noticeable...try not 2 let that happen. :x!  we  r  so accustomed 2 your daily visits & contributions.  glad that things  r  looking up by moving into a new home.  things change when ya have a little one.

wow.... i'm kinda surprised that u let your hair grow out for 2 days but i def. agree with ya that it gives a closer shave.  your reasoning makes sense because when i skip a day... that next day shave is extra extra smooooth.  however.... i try not 2 skip a day because i hate the velcro scalp. >:(   so...far i'm a daily shaver but when u "sacrifice" or skip a day the reward will b an extra smooooth dome.  that's the beauty of having choices. O0

hey...jdog.... will  u  ever go back 2 daily shaves?  anyways.... good having ya back, buddy. O0

Congratulations on the new home there, JDOG.  Hope everything settles down for you and you'll be back to your old postin' self.

Hope the move goes smoothly.
Personally, I really try and avoid skipping a day shaving. Although I do agree a razor has a little more to "grab onto" when you skip a day, I try and shave daily. If I do skip a day (or worse two days  :o) I can feel the itch of my scalp condition return. Plus, I like being as smooth as possible.

Cheers,
Schro

Hey JDog, welcome back bro, I haven't been on much myself and didn't notice you were not on like you usually are. Glad to hear you are going into a new house, that's always fun, once you get settled in. Things will fall into place.

I have to agree with you guys, I also get a closer shave if I skip a day, but like the Schro man, I really don't like to skip one. Two days for me is an extreme.

I think it's probably much better for you not to do a two-a-day shave, it's much too much irritation on the scalp, in my opinion.
This routine sounds like it will be better for you (and the dome).
Good luck in the new house!     O0

Yeah - good luck in the new house.

I can't go two days without shavin - aint got that much will power!

Can go a day, and agree its a better shave then, when you got somethin' to shave!  But for me once a day is the only way!

As a career baldie, I cant skip a day on purpose. Suggest that the sense of smoothness after skipping a day might just be perception. We all like being totally slick so when you let the stubble grow for awhile and then shave, it generally feels like a better shave than the normal daily one

I agree with JDog -- that the extra length gives the razor more to grab onto and gives a smoother shave.

I'm not sure I'd go two days without shaving. If I have something big, I just forego shaving in the morning and shave before the event in the afternoon.

The extra 6-12 hours of growth seems to make a difference.

Thanks for the words everyone. Yeah still in Sydney, moved about 10 minutes away to a nicer and quiter area. The hassles of living like a sardine in an apartment are gone! No more drunken neighbors waking me up at 2am!

Good to have you back JDog. O0

Good luck with the new digs.

My hair grows so fast that I can't go 2 days or I'd have a #1 buzz cut once a day is the best I can do. I do feel better when I wait the full day to shave, the days I shave twice aren't as good.

Padre where in MI are you from? I spent all my life there before I joined the service. I grew up in the Oakland Co area, but after I graduated moved around between Flint and Saginaw a bunch.

Real nice to see you around again Jdog...

Not sure if "waiting" is worth a smoother shave for me though...for me just having a completely looking bald dome is the best!

Got's to represent 24/7 ya know! ;)
