If you found out...
« on: November 01, 2007, 02:36:07 AM »
You only had 1 year to live, how would you change your life?  What would you do starting tomorrow?

People are not limited by the circumstance that they are born in. They are limited by the size of their dreams. Show them that their dreams can have no limits and in turn their accomplishments can be limitless.

I'm with you Warhawk. I'd travel. Included in my list of places/things I'd like to see are the Great Barrier Reef, the Grand Canyon (flown over it, never gone in it), and Alaska during the summer. All travel would be with my wife & kids (although, I'd have to be careful not to spend all my kids' inheritance). Other specifics (which would all be done with the Lovely Mrs. Schro):

1. Skydive
2. Play a few golf courses I've never played before that I want to (Pebble Beach, TPC Sawgrass, Kapalua, Cabo Del Sol).
3. Spend a week at a winery during "the crush"
4. Raft the Colorado River

Just to name a few.

First of all I would probably sit down and cry. I cant imagine a doctor coming in the room and telling me I only had 1 year to live.  It would be the most devistating to ever hit a person.  I would have to say that I would go thru all my stuff and made sure everything was taken care of for my family when the time comes.  I dont want to be a burden on my family.  I see it all the time, when death hits, everything stops and the surviving loved ones sometimes have trouble dealing with the everyday things.
I then would go out spend my time with the people that mattered the most to me.  Yes there are many places I would love to see but spending time with my family would be my highest priority.  The many places people want to go see would not compare at all to where I will be going.  Because once I get there, I will have all of that, it will be with me for eternity.  I dont want you to cry when im gone..but to celebrate my life.  All too often do I see funerals where everyone is in a somber mood, sitting around and they just feel like their life is over with.  Yes it is hard when you lose a loved one, but Celebrate the time you had with them.  My funeral, I dont want the typical  walk in ...view the body, hug the surviors...cry....Heck set me up in a chair...with my newpaper...pull out the buffet, have a band ( dj) whatever...HAVE A PARTY!  LOOK where I went!  You cant deny that you wouldnt be happy for someone that is now spending eternity with their creator.  I know this may get into an opinion of beliefs....but thats what I think and no one can change that.   Now that I have mentioned Food Buffet at the funeral...Look at Warhawk over there....he is pulling out his papers...changing his funeral descriptions.....lol  My buffet is going to have Steaks on it Warhawk...what you gonna have?

Eat and drink EVERYTHING!

Travel to as many exotic locations as possible.

maybe take up drugs

Snowboard, dirt bike and everything else I normally do but way faster and far more crazy, try to beat whatever I had with adrenaline.

Write and record one last record.

I'm single. With noone to plan for it would be the biggest year long party. The term "party like a rock star " would be an understatement. This planet would know I "was" here!

I think that I'm with Timmy on this one.  I don't think I'd be so worried about doing stuff that I had never done before. I would be more concerned with making sure that I had made the difference in all the lives of my friends and family.  I would want to make sure that my wife and kids had the best memories of who I am and what is important to me.  All the other stuff really isn't important.  My faith would be (and is) the most important thing to me in light of all the trivial stuff that happens to us in our short lives here on earth.

First thing I would do is call up everyone I have ever loved and tell them just that.  Next I would charter a jet to Indianapolis and get a hold of Shindig seats for John Mellencamp at Conseco Fieldhouse, since seeing Mellencamp in Indiana would be just about one of the greatest things ever.  After that I would clear up my schedule so I could go to every Bondurant-Farrar sporting event possible.  I'd take the train to the West Coast, drive up the coast to Everett WA to tour the Boeing Assembly Line, and maybe even have a beer or 2.  The rest of the time I'll do a lot of cooking, baking, and grilling.

I'd make sure all my responsibilites were complete for my family.

I'd video all the things I need to teach my 10 year old son and tell him all my memories of life.

We'd take some family trips to build new memories.

I'd do some random acts of kindness, because I haven't done enough of those.

My selfish thing would be to get all the guys I played in bands with over the last 40 years and have one hell of a reunion party.
