The only ones that I've had to deal with are Verizon and American Express.  I'd rate Verizon about a 7 and American Express about a 4.

I could not agree with you more on that one.  Verizon's customer service is horrendous.

CitiCards: 5. Extremely bad customer service. High sales pressure from bankers. After they sell you everything, they're useless.

Bank of America: 3. Neutral. They never seem to get it "right", but nothing near as bad as Wells Fargo or Citibank.

Capital One: 5. They automatically enrolled me into their protection program and by the time I noticed, they refused to recoup the charges back to my account. It cost me about $200 that I never authorised. They also reduced my credit line from $5000 to $300 without my knowledge. Absolutely the worst customer service ever, when I called to cancel my account and the agent argued with me.

Comcast: 2. They're expensive, but never had many issues with CS.

AT&T: 5. ATT recently referred my account to a collection agency after a billing error on their part, just by changing my phone number. I had no idea why such rude, unprofessional people were calling me until I called ATT and they dug up their mistake. They didn't make an effort to make it right, so I won't be renewing my service in a few months.

Verizon: 4. Just plain bad. No explanation for $100 telephone bills when I didn't go over my minutes. The customer service was very impolite.

They only good customer service I've ever had from Verizon, is when I walk into a store, and speak to a manager.  Every issue I've ever had has been fixed very quickly doing this.  Call their support line and you get the run around from very rude people.  I've been thinking about changing carriers because of this, but they're all bad.

MBNA did this to me once when I was on a business trip.  I'd charge close to $5000 every month and pay it off every month due to it being business travel expenses.  I was at a dinner with some clients and went to pay for the meal with it knowing it had a $0 balance.  The meal was around $500.  It got declined.  Luckily I had my Amex with me and was able to use it.  When I called them they said it was due to me always being late with my payment - I hadn't had a late payment in 4 years with them.  Even the online statements I was looking at said that I had never been late, yet the CS rep continued to argue with me and wouldn't re-up my limit.  I went up two managers and they still couldn't figure it out.  Two months later they closed my account saying that I again had too many late payments, yet I hadn't charged anything during those months.  This put a bad mark on my credit because they closed the account. I had to get a lawyer friend to write a letter for me in order to get it cleared up.  I'm pretty sure to this day they got me mixed up with another person with my name since I have a pretty common name.
People are not limited by the circumstance that they are born in. They are limited by the size of their dreams. Show them that their dreams can have no limits and in turn their accomplishments can be limitless.

I have had problems with our local Verizon stores, but have always been pleased when calling Verizon customer service.   Had a store manager try to weasel out of a promotion I received in the mail.  So I called Verizon customer service, while in the store, and handed the phone to the Manager.  He caved quickly and I think customer service lectured him, by the way he was rolling his eyes.
