hi, im 20 years old, and its killing me.
its not that noticeable at the moment cos it only started recently, but its the fear of the future that i just cant take. i never realised it before i started losing my hair, but my entire self-esteem is rooted in the way i look. i am seriously close to admitting myself to hospital, because i am having panic attacks every day, etc, and tbh ive thought about suicide.
sorry to get all serious on you, i just dont know what to do
i wouldnt mind if i thought it could look in any way ok, but i have a massive head and am almost certain it will look very bad
if i send a pic is it possible to get it altered to show what i would look like? i dont know if i should becauseif i saw it and it looked bad it would send me over the edge

Robbie,
Many of the guys on this forum have been through this same thing (myself included). I began loosing my hair at about 22 and bald heads were not nearly as accepted as they are now.
First thing, the way you look is not just your hair, it is your attitude, cleanliness, smile, eyes and many other aspects of you other than your hair.
Second, to save yourself a lot of heartache, scaring, depression, trouble and money, dont start grabbing at straws trying to reverse the effects of mother nature. There is no cure for male pattern baldness and there are a million things you can throw money at to achieve nothing.
Third, This is the first of many times throughout your life you will be faced with changes in your appearance. Learning now to accept these changes, (even embrace them) and reinvent your appearance to reflect who you REALLY are is going to help you tremendously.
Fourth, post a pic of yourself.
and last but not least, just shave your head. Your hair will grow back to what it is now and you will be suprised as to how over critical you are to yourself (we all are).

Just do it! And give yourself 30 days to see if it truly suits you. I doubt you will regret it. Welcome to the forum!

Welcome!!! from one Robbie to another.
It's hard to convey in a short message that you shouldn't be so consumed by your appearance.
When I was 20 (25 years ago

) yeah, appearance was critical but I certainly wouldn't rap my lips around a pistol or hearl myself off a cliff......I would have missed out on a lifetime of rich blessings that have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH APPEARANCE. Believe me, I have a lot more appearance issues now than I've ever had.
Anyway, give the shave a try, buddy.....either gradually clip it closer and closer while you get used to it.....or shave it off and give it 3-5 weeks to get used to while you hang with us.

I agree with the other guys. Many of us were in the exact same situation you're in. I know that shaving your head seems pretty radical, and I was as apprehensive as you are, but I think if you just go for it you'll find that it is the best solution - both for your appearance and emotional well-being.
The good news is that you found a group of guys that have gone through the same thing as you and can provide lots of sound advice and guidance ....

Yeah mate. I'm 19, so 'still' into the whole 'my looks are bloody important' and all that, although my body aint so brilliant so my face/head look was extremely important to me. Turns out though going bald was the best thing i did. People all find it 'awesome', in fact from all my friends (and the 'ladies'

) all i get is positive stuff and a whole new conversation starter.
Most girls my age, and slightly older - basically people someone my age would be hanging around with - go on about how it makes a guy look confident (which in turn = sexy) if he can pull off the bald look. I've got a goatie goin too, so personally, i've never actually felt better about my appearence.

Welcome robbie and listen to the other brothers, they know what they are talking about. Also continue to read the various threads on here and you will see you are in no way alone or unique in your concerns. You will find plenty of support here for checking out the sly life and how liberating it can be.

Welcome Robbie!!! I was in a similar situation to yours in that around my senior year of high school/freshmen year of college I noticed my hair had receded quite a bit and I just wore it in varying lengths for several years until about a year ago when I started buzzing it closer and closer until finally I was at a "0" guard. Then about 5-6 months ago I decided I'd had enough and found this forum and received plenty of support and I haven't been this happy about my appearance in a long time! My other bros have already given you some great advice as well, so we're all behind you no matter what. I can guarantee you though that if you do become SLY you likely won't regret it - not many of us have. So you're 20 and losing your hair, honestly man, it's not the end of the world. I know it may seem that way, but embrace who you are now and give the SLY look a chance and chances are that you'll love the freedom.

Dude, I've got a massive melon ... 7-3/4 hat size ... inherited it from my grandpa. Nothing wrong with a big head.
