LOVING Old Blades!
« on: September 17, 2007, 10:17:57 AM »
:/O this may sound LOCO but i hate using new blades! i head blade with the Sport and i must be heavy handed b/c new blades are hard on my mellon. BUT if i use the blade a few times it get SO much better. and this is ANY blade mind you. so its not uncommom for me to use a blade for 4-5 weeks shaving every day before i break down and use a new one.
i shave front to back, then back to front twice each way to make sure i hit the overlap and dont leave a streak of hair.
any of you guys use blades until they are super used????

I agree that the first shave with a new blade is not the best shave for me.  Usually the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th shaves are REALLY good.  Though, I don't know if I could go several weeks with the same blade.  I use the Sensor Excel blades.

Same here, I find that I get better shaves after the first, usually the middle of the blades life. I think it tends to grab more (not cutting as cleanly), and slows down as it gets duller. Which makes you dive more with the HB.
I am alternating between the Atra plus and the Sensor. These two work very well for me.
I did note, in a much earlier posting, that I did get quite far with the original triple blade that came with the Headblade Sport. I think I got almost a month out of it, if I'm not mistaken.
I picked up the triple replacement cartridges in Walgreen's a few weeks back, and I think I'm going to give them a go for comparison. I'll let you know how it goes.

I've noticed the same thing with both my headblade and mach III blades.  The shave is much closer after several uses and I can easily use a blade for two weeks.

More often than not the first time I use a blade  I get a real great smooth shave, I get around 6-10 shaves of each one. I have had one pack  of Sensor blades that I think were dull out of the manufacturing plant. Had to throw the whole lot out.

DAMN....wish i could use my fusion blades that long.  however.... i can only get at the most 6-7 shaves out of my fusion.  i tried using it longer one time & it did not get my noggin' smooth.

my best shaves come during the 1st use, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th.  the 6th & 7th use  is  stretching it 4 me.  anything after the 7th use.... i will cause "harm" 2 my face & dome.

I'm the same as Warhawk and Danyroo.  I just automatically pitch em after a week, or my face and dome start feeling the consequences.

Hey Danyroo, how's it going? Haven't seen you in a while! Glad you're back Cool new pic too O0

I agree with you Yhote - the price has put me off trying any of the fancier razors but having just watched Tom's vid (in another thread) I am re thinking my position. I've always managed to get a pretty close shave just using regular type blades but that headblade did look like a lot of fun! Also agree, a blade can last me for a good couple of weeks & the first shave with a new blade can be a bit savage sometimes.  ;D

Thanks shyslyguy.. yea I've been busy.. I know not a good excuse but.. I'm sticking with it.

I loved the vid that Tom did. I 've got a headblade but. I've never been able to work with it. or it with me..

either way..

Mac3 and fusions are $$$$$$ so the other week I tried one of my first razors. sensor excel.. worked pretty good.

but I was thinking of giving another chance to the hb with triple blades. see if it works out.

I still use the MachIII blades on my Headblade Sport.  I get anywhere from 5-6 weeks with it.  I dunno people seem to be amazed at how long it will last...when alot of you say one week and your done with it.  I dont go for those fancier razors...I seem to be happy where I am at...and Ice is always there he is very reliable.

Hey Danyroo, good to see you back here. I think you should give the HB another try, bro.
If you take your time and don't press on the blade end, you will be fine. I have been using it since I started shaving the dome and haven't looked back.
It really does the job as intended, and as you get better at it you can really get down low near the ears, which will save time with cleanup.
I also think it will be much better for you dollarwise, as replacement cartridges (Atra plus, Sensor), are much cheaper than Mach III and Fusion. The HB and sensor cartridges work very well. Give it a shot and let us know how you do.

Great new pic too!   O0
