Sup Y'all. Long time lurker here. So before I start I want to say that I am currently wearing a hairpiece. Been doing it for about 6 months now and I'm growing tired of it. Like, I've gotten quite a few compliments with it on and I'm getting more attention from women, but it just doesn't feel right because I deep down I know I'm faking it, and I'm not okay with living like this for much longer.

I'm currently a senior in university and 25 years old. I was thinking of taking the plunge during the winter break, because I don't just want to show up to class one day with a nice head of hair and the next go completely bald lol.

The main reason why I wanted to use a hairpiece in the first place was because I was worried about my head shape. It's pretty cone shaped. Now I know you guys hear this a lot, but give me the honest truth. Is it bad or no? The pic is probably in the worst lighting, and I'm rocking the horseshoe with no beard (I'm able to grow a full one) so this probably as bad as it gets.

No sugar coating and trying to make me feel good. Tell me what you really think. Thanks, I appreciate it.

In the photo I think the longer side fringe is creating a vertical  effect. I imagine they shave the top down to fit the hair piece ?  In any case your head shape is fine, you have great skin and great bone structure. You will look great sly and I would suggest some facial scruff to complete the look if you can.  As far as a transition goes maybe they could cut your hair piece into a shorter haircut as a first step ?  But honestly with some facial hair growing first, it is not that difficult to remove the piece and show a new look. It is so freeing beyond belief. You will not care about hair anymore. There is also a nice sub on Reddit called rBald with similar stories you might look. Free yourself now !

You have a great head shape.  The hair on. The sides may be what creates the shape you refer to.  If you shave it will look better

I feel also the hair on sides emphasizes your head shape which actually is fine.
Shave it, others will quickly adjust to your new look and you will be more happy with yourself.

Nothing wrong with your head shape,is a little bit pointy, but that's OK! Everyone's is know for something.

Give it a try! Don't worry about others reactions.

I understand you concern about showing up on day shaved after wearing the piece.  But, there is nothing in your head shape that makes me think sly would not look good on you.  So all you need to do is make the transition.  I also suggest you add some facial hair.  It may hep you make the transition.

Since you have only been wearing the piece for 6 months, most people likely already know it is fake if they knew you before.  So the transition may be easier than you think it is going to be.  Most of us that have shaved found out that the transition was not nearly as bad as we expected, almost a non-event other than a few comments.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Yeah I'm planning on growing a beard before the transition, I think it will help too. I'm glad for your honest opinions, it's making going bald seem much less of a worry now. I'll definitely make the transition this December and probably never look back.

As far as my friends knowing I have a hair piece, I don't think they are aware. I was the guy who would always wear hats whenever I saw anyone else but my family so I don't think any of them knew that I was balding in the first place. But regardless, weather they know it or not I'm going to do and If I get sh*t for it then fine, I'll take it and keep moving forward.

I too was concerned about my head shape before shaving and I buzzed my hair with chippers with a guard for years and then finally took the guard off and buzzed for 2 years before shaving.  With that said, I totally wish I had started shaving my head years ago when it was becoming more apparent that my hair was thinning.  I worried all the time about if it was showing and such and now the freedom you feel is amazing!  I think the shape of your head isn't a problem at all and think you would look great with your head shaved!

I agree, I think the fringe is making your head seem even more pointy. And frankly, you're already very bald. I think you'll feel better about yourself if you take it all off. So get a beard going and shave that head!

Tell your barber to lose the fringe and grab a razor!  I guarantee that you will be smiling at the end!
