Carry On and Head Shaving?
« on: September 29, 2018, 11:51:06 AM »
I travel by planes quite frequently and can live out of a carry-on for a week easily.  I am getting ready for a trip to China and looking for suggestions on how to pack when shaving your head.  Please share ideas for the best supplies / most necessary when flying.  I am mainly looking for ideas on shave cream, lotions, other liquid items that become most problematic due to airline limits.  Buying items in China may be problematic because they have very different tendencies.  Thanks in advance

Hope you enjoy your trip to China.

I have been regularly over the past 20 years and I find that it is easy to take anything you need eg razor, shaving cream  etc in your check in baggage so avoiding the problem of liquid limits etc. in carry on luggage.  Even if you take a small check in bag that would suffice. If you shave just before you leave home you will not need to shave until you arrive.

Just a check in bag is problematic as I have found the Chinese authorities quite diligent re liquids etc.  Their toothpastes, creams etc are not as good as you would buy at home.

I remember guys talking about using an electric shaver while traveling. And it would be fun to seek out a local barber for a headshave.
Bald by choice, and loving it!

I agree.  I have had head shaved in India, China and Myanmar and all were a good (and fun) experience although none quite as smooth as I can do it.  Myanmar (Burma) was by far the cheapest at around $1.

In each place I found as a white male with beard I was the 'center of attention' with people looking in through the window .  I have found in that situation a big smile works wonders as everyone wants to communicate with you and even take photos.  My 15 minutes of fame.

Actually in Shanghai I had an experience when sitting on a wall on the famous Bund that a couple of pretty young girls (I was about 70 at the time) asked could they have their photo taken with me - shaved head and white beard - and very quickly there was a line up of other people also wanting a photo.  They must have thought I was a 'celebrity'.
