Mr Mom and the spot remover
« on: October 10, 2007, 06:54:30 PM »
Well Im sure you all know by now..that last week I spent the week learning how to be Mr Mom............. :-X
Well you all know what happens in a household....you have gettin the kids up for school, lunches, breakfast, brush the hair, make sure shoes are on, FIGHTING, SCREAMING, cleaning the house after a herd of cattle have come thru, you have the grocery shopping, the phone calls, soccer practice, school dance, sleep overs, baths, homework, gettin my self ready for work and the BIG ONE! ...........Laundry ;D ;D ;D...
I am normally barred from the laundry, but she wasnt here so she couldnt stop me.
Hey I had to have clean underwear..right??  Only have two pair so what was I suppose to do.  Anyways...well she got home Sunday night.  Monday was teh walk around on eggshells day...in hopes she wouldnt check the laundry baskets.  OH BOY! It took 3 days for her to find what had happened.  There was 3 shirts that had some unknown substance on them.  Sorta like grease, oil, paint, crayon...who knows...it wasnt there when i put them in I swear!  Spray and Wash Dual power...ya know the one that has to solvents and they mix together as you spray it out....WOULDNT TOUCH IT.  I was like honey I have no idea.  All i can think of is if I take em to the carwash and power blast em out.  That was quickly nipped in the butt....so I sat ..and sat...and sat...thinking of what I could use to get the stains out.  So I head to the kitchen sink and low and behold ...guess what works!   Walmart brand apple scented dish soap.  Yelp you got it.  THat high priced...over advertised Spray and Wash stuff.........wouldnt touch it.  A few squirts of Walmart brand dish soap and a splash of water.......rub together for 30 seconds...( makes yoru fingernails clean too) and waaaaalaaaaaaaaaaa......BINGO!  Clean as a whistle.  So ifyou ever get into trouble wiht the laundry...go to...NO...RUN to the nearest Walmart and grab you a bottle of Apple scented dish soap...Works wonders.

OK WOMAN!  You are speaking to a carpet specialist here. NEVER ..i repeat NEVER use dishsoap on your carpet ...UNLESS .....I repeat UNLESS you get all the soap out.  The reason I say that is most stains or soiled spots will come out with plain cold water and a mild cleaner....not something that suds up alot.  If you do not get all the soap out....just imagine your hair if you do not get all the soap out.  What happens?  Yelp you got it...it gets all matted up and sticky and dirty again really quick.  Same thing for carpet.  If you leave the soap in there..when you walk across it again it will attract dirt.  What we recommend ...( and I dont know if you have it down there or not) but you can buy it here at Lowe's.  Its called Capture.  It is a dry mixture that you sprinkle on the spot and you rub it in.  The mixture will pull and absorb any liquid and or soil.  It captures it inside the tiny little particales and that way you can just use the vaccum cleaner and suck it up
If you have a wet spill...the best thing to do it get mutliple layers of paper towel and blot it.  let the towel sit on top of it, it will extract from the carpet fibers.  Never rub or grind in the soil/liquid.  Because if you do that ..then you are pushing it further into the carpet and possibly the pad underneath.  Once it gets into the pad its hard to get it out. Once it is in the pad and you go andclean the spot and you re wet it ...well its called wicking action.  the pad gets wet...so does the soil or liquid and you will clean the surface of the carpet and it will appear that it is clean.  Well the pad is wet too remember.....when that begins to dry...when things evaporate..they go up...am i correct?  well it will bring with it the soil/ stain....and you will see that you once again have that spot back again..but only this time its bigger.  so you clean it again..your scrubbing away back and forth and you are making a much bigger wet spot....then again..when it dries..........the spot comes back....EVEN BIGGER!...
Have i rambled enough?? I think I have..just go get some Capture adn be done with it.

Oppppss guess i have been doing it wrong!! i am ocd about carpet stains..(especially when i was pregnant - go figure - the time when you are so massive you cant clean).

I have never heard of capture but I will check it out. i normally only put a tiny tiny drop of dish soap in with water and it only foams a little bit and make sure it I get all the moisture back out with paper towel!!!

have to get me some capture dang it!!! there are 2 stains I have to get out before we move....jdoggy is a grub!  :*)) :*)) :*)) :*))
