Out of all the charities I give to, this one holds a special place for me. I lost a good friend to a nero-muscular some years back and it's been a big stick in my craw ever since.
I've held those MDA carnivals, raised money door to door, stood at the neighborhood supermarket with my MDA can at the ready. I've been doing this for decades now.
Tonight kicks off the 2007 Labor Day MDA telethon. Once again our living rooms will be invaded by Jerry Lewis. Once again he will appeal for help.
Once again I do the same. However here for the first time.
So tonight, I ask that the sly guys band together and really help. Looking at this forum as one big family, we can make a difference.
Whether it be a dollar or a million does not matter. Imagine if every man, woman, and child in this country gave only one dollar? I think it would blow up Jerrys' tote board!
Well, we may not blow up the tote board, but putting our sly heads together, we can sure give it one hellava shot! And also help out to find a cure to a disease that kills thousands of children each year.
But it just doesn't kill children. Just ask Lou Gehrig. MD can inflict anyone, regardless of age.
So, lets all give at least something. One of the last things my friend said to me before he died was "Don't stop".
My friend, I am not stopping.
http://www.mdausa.org Please, give at least a dollar. A cure will be found someday.
If they could find a cure when I'm buried into Heaven. I could still celebrate with my brothers and sister there. And I could still be happy, knowing that I was part of the effort - Mattie J.T. Stepanek
