I'm mainly joining here because I've already been lurking - reading up on how to maintain and what other's experiences have been. Reading other people's stories has been incredibly reassuring, especially those who are doing this by choice! (I'm BBC). Considering my return visits here, it made sense to actually join.
Anyway, my story. I'm 24 y/o, I first clean shaved when I was 16 but the look didn't match my baby face at the time and after about 2 weeks I gave up on it, put simply I wasn't ready. Since then I've wavered between relatively long (sported an undercut last year) to around a #3 all over (plus a drunken incident when I was 19

) - always preferred it as short as I could away with! Recently bought my own clippers as money and time were tight and decided to gradually acclimate everyone and myself to a shorter style going from a #3 and down each time until I reached no guard. Cutting with a no guard clipper looked good but I didn't like the sandpaper feel. Today I finally took the plunge and gave myself a clean shave and it feels great and looks like a cleaner, smarter version of having a #0. I'm nervous about reactions but considering I've added about 40lbs of muscle since then and built up a tan plus looking older, I'm fairly sure I look as ready as I feel.

The main thing is that I'm happy I suppose!
Anyway, that's my story. Questions welcome.

Glad you joined up, Reg.
Great introduction. It sounds like you know what you want. As long as you are happy with the look, don't concern yourself with what others may think. I have a feeling, however, that you will be pleased with the reactions.
And there is nothing like that smooth feeling following a shave.
Welcome to the forum!

Cheers. Very true, I'm often overly concerned with what others think, doing this is definitely part of being my own person and working my own style I feel comfortable with. In the meantime, its good to know there's like minded people on here. Definitely, no guard clipper looks similar but the difference in feel is like night and day. Thanks for the welcome.

You are very welcome Reg. And if you feel half as good as you look - well then - you are 24 years old and have the world by the tail! Enjoy every minute of your life and don't take a single second for granted!

You look great and sound happy. I'm BBC as well. If you're content with BBC, embrace it. Others will come around.

Welcome to the forum, Reg. I'm BBC as well. When I took the plunge I had a lot of reactions from everyone, mostly positive. After the first few days that died down. Now there are a lot of people who only know me as bald. As long as you are happy that's what counts.
You look great!

Since you have bee buzzing your hair, the reactions will be mild. Most will not notice a difference between the no guard buzz and the razor shave, except other razor shavers. The smooth feel is awesome though.

Magoo: Cheers!
Semi-Sly: Appreciate the compliment. I'll try to!
tobler1: Had my first comment from another sly guy at the gym who I know, he asked me why out of the blue. Just said, low cost and maintenance and I like the look. Seemed to respect that so its cool.
SirHarry: Cheers!
Socknoggle: My only concern is how my parents will react. They've always been a bit off about just the no guard clipper cut but at the end of the day, its my life. Hopefully people will see me the same way soon enough.
Slybeard: That's what I'm hoping for. Still expecting some reactions but if I do get any, I'll just have to be firm about how this is something I'm doing for me.

Looking good Reg, feels great, doesn't it?
Yup, I'm BBC, and after 2.5 years, only 2 of my oldest friends don't care for it. Everyone else has accepted my head shaved, and expect to see bald.
Interesting to realize, everyone that you meet for the first time, don't know you any other way. I hope you continue to enjoy the bald life!

reddog: Certainly does. I'm glad to hear that. And that's a good point, those I meet now may find it hard to imagine me with hair haha. I think I'm already starting to come around myself, trying to stick with the 30 day deal.
wpruitt: Cheers!

Reg, your story about BBC and gradually going shorter and shorter is similar to mine, although I did not go down that route until I was in my late 50. I still have a full head of hair, but working in the IT department where buzzed hair was more normal than odd, it just fit to give it a try. I agree, the shorter, the better, but lets get rid of the sandpaper, thus shaved bald. Nice to have another BBC here.

Thanks mrzed, you'll be glad to hear I had an ATG shave this morning. No sandpaper, should be good until Thursday morning!
