Finally
« on: November 02, 2015, 11:19:21 AM »
Signed up a couple of years on here and never had the guts to buzz it off. I'm now 29 and  thinning hair has got worse these past couple of months when I got sick for a few weeks then just got prescribed high blood pressure meds. Also I just started to talk to a girl and only met her once and I had my hat on the whole time so she never saw my hair. So I felt like I was at a crossroad and said its time!  On Halloween I took my clippers to my parents to take it off. My mom thought I was kidding when I asked her to do it lol. She did it with it with number 1 clips. I felt relief but I feel almost like it's more noticeable too. I got comments today that it looked good but also 1 comment saying I didn't know you were thinning ! Guessing 1 isn't short enough ? So thinking today I go with no guard , will it make thinning a lot less noticeable ? O and about the girl she said she doesn't care about how else I look she says she already likes me as who I am so in a few days will be the new me without a cap!

Welcome! Glad to hear you have had a positive experience so far. I would recommend taking the razor blade to it and starting that 30 day challenge. You'll be glad you did.

Shaving your head will make the thinning disappear.

But if that is too radical for you today, go ahead and do the 'no guard'. The difference is 1 week of hair growth. At that short, it does not take long to change lengths if you don't like it.

I've always had long hair so just buzzing to a 1 was tough . I'm ready to go down to a 0 I think. Then hopefully to the shaving it all the way down . Still not married and just started talking to a girl so it's a lot of change and I knew this day was coming so it's not as bad as a couple of years ago when thinking of the idea . It's just going to take time to get used to the look and hearing everyone's comments towards my new look

Once you get down to a #1, going shorter is a piece of cake.  Remember that it will grow back to #1 length in a week.  Take it all off -- if you don't like it, you only have to live with it for a week.

To answer your other question, the shorter you go, the less obvious your thinning will be because at shorter lengths, it is expected for the scalp to show through a bit.

If you've always had long hair, the change to a 1 or 0 is pretty dramatic, so it will take time for you and others to adjust.  Also, it's pretty common for people to make comments or ask questions, but generally these stop in a pretty short period of time.

Thanks guys ! I haven't got much negative comments at work so it's been good so far . I work in education so I was kind of worried about what other professionals might say but it's been ok . A few have said they liked it and others haven't said oh cool you shaved you head lol . I will definetly stay shorter than a 1 I didn't like it made the thinning look much worse . But so far I'm happy with reactions !

A little over 4 years ago, while on vacation, I took the guard off my clippers and buzzed my head every day, just to see what it was like.  I liked it so much, I just stuck with it for about six months, at which point I broke out the razor.  First pass was right down the middle so there was no going back.  Visually, hardly anyone noticed the difference. By feel, it was a huge difference. Havent' gone back to the buzz since.  The shave just feels so good.

It did take me a while to get used to seeing myself as bald.  But I liked the feel so much that I did not worry about my thoughts about the look.

Congratulations on taking the step  O0!

Just push along at a pace you are comfortable with, I kept my hair fairly short for a long time, then when I actually put a razor to the scalp asked myself why I waited so long, a day and night difference in feel, with several comments of how I look younger.

Keep us posted on your adventure in sly!

Thanks for the awesome advice guys . If I hadn't been lurking on here for awhile I wouldn't have taken off my hair . The reactions aren't bad yet still have to see the family that will be a different story since they've never seen me with short hair . Took it to a 0 and feels great that I just don't have to worry about trying to do something to my hair anymore

Nice feeling, isn't it.

You'll be shaving your head in the not too distant future.

You'll love it when you put the razor to it. I've been bald for over a year and a half now and still love shaving my head every morning in the shower. It's a refreshing feeling to go into work with a clean head every day.
