Tender/sore scalp whilst balding?
« on: October 16, 2015, 09:48:08 AM »
If this thread was posted in the wrong section of the forum, I would like to apologize beforehand. I wasn't able to find a section that would fit my sort of problem/or I might have missed it

Hello.

So as for the past couple of weeks I have been having an issue with my scalp(I am buzzed short, by the way).

I have been having this very sore or tender scalp. It's quite hard to explain because the feeling is very unusual.

I have spoken to my regular doctor and he wasn't quite sure what it could be. I even spoke to my dermatologist who said I had quite the amount of dandruff. I went back to my regular doctor, though, and I asked him if the dandruff could cause this - however, he said it would only cause an itchy scalp at most.

This has really been bugging me, and as I am losing my hair, I am starting to pin these two things together.
By that I mean that I am starting to think that due to the fact that Mother Nature saw me fit to lose my hair at an early age, it also causes some tender/sore sort of a pain in my scalp. I am very confused up to now.

Recently I bought something called "Alpecin Caffeinated Shampoo C1" that supposedly battles dandruff and hairloss(I might have been a little desperate on the latter "effect" to be honest). It hasn't really had any effect as of yet, but I've only used it twice.

Is this something that you guys have had or have heard about? I certainly haven't and nor has my doctor.

I would greatly appreciate any feedback from you guys :-)

Thanks in advance.

- Jonas

Hi Jonas,

Is the feeling similar to a sunburn, or pulled hair type of pain?  When I was buzz cutting I noticed some discomfort from the unguarded clipper repeatedly raking my scalp, I was probably holding the clipper at an 'aggressive' angle causing the irritation myself.  After I adjusted my technique it seemed to ease, then I just took the hair completely off, and that was also a learning experience about hair grain, and direction.

Another possibility is the clipper blades may be getting dull and is pulling your hair before shearing it, or not shearing it completely leaving hanging stumps to rub against you skin (like when hair clippings fall into your shirt).

I know I didn't offer much in the way of curing the problem, I hope you find some relief soon!

Jonas and Dart, both of you may have a case of sebhorric dermatitis. Some medicated shampoos may cure it, but the cheapest way in most cases may be to bite the bullet and razor shave. I used to have it and when I razor shave it would clear up. Just a suggestion.

Well i am giving nizoral a try maybe it could do something about it.
About the razor shave...i am scared that it will make it like 10x worse with lots of bleeding and mega rashes, when i shave my facial hair it gets a bit red and pimply and goes away,i mean if i shave on my red irritated scalp what would happen.

Cheers for that, Sir Harry.
However, I just did a quick google search and wasn't able to match the listed symptoms to whats happening on my head.

I'll be looking further into this, though. My doctor told me to stay in touch and I'll call him soon to get some clarification(possibly a new appointment at the dermatologist).

Thanks again for the reply :-)

Many guys with scalp issues fine they clear up with razor shaving.  I had a bad dandruff problem that completely disappeared within a few days after starting to razor shave.
