HeadBlade's own double blades
« on: August 19, 2007, 08:36:26 PM »
What's up sly bros?  As I mentioned in another thread, I've been doing a sort of experiment with the HB by shaving my face with it to see if it gives a decent shave.  I have always had a love-hate relationship with the HB just for the fact that I can't seem to get a consistent shave every time without nicking myself.  But I think I may finally be finding a groove with it.  I had tried it again a about a week ago just because I get bored like that and curious.  So I tried it again and it worked pretty good even though I did nick myself a few times.  I was out of HeadSlick though and had to use a different brand.  Anyway like I was saying, I had stated in that same thread that I had used it on my face also and it wasn't too bad of a shave.  It almost seemed like to me that it gave me about the same closeness as my Mach 3.  So I was going to do a little experiment as soon as I stocked up on some more HeadSlick.  Which I did a few days ago.  I have to say that using the Gillette Atras with the HB on the face works pretty well for me and is just as close as the Mach 3.  What I did was is I let my facial hair grow out for 2 days and then I shaved one side with the Mach 3 and one with the HB using the atras.  I couldn't tell a difference at all.  The reason I wanted to do this is because I can't stand using two different razors to do the whole job.  I just think it's ridiculous.  So I figured since I was getting a good hang of the HB on the dome again I would give it another shot as long as it did well enough on the face.  Which it did.  Now I did use the baby oil trick on the dome with the HeadSlick which could be what is helping me.  Now, to finally get to my point of this post...My question is to the HeadBladers out there who use the HB brand double blades.  Would ya'll say they are a good blade?  Or better yet I guess I should ask, do you think they would be better than the Gillette Atras?  Because the only thing with the atras is that I have to take it real slow on the face.  They work good but if I don't go slow I tend to irritate it.

Lance thanks for this indepth post.

I would rate the HB double blades over the atras  yes. I always found that I got a decent shave on the face with the HB but it was always a tad ackward and was always used to using the handled razors to do the face. Will give it a try seeing as how you have had good success with it.

You know, I've never tried the HB double blades.  I may have to include those in my order the next time I place one.  I noticed that they are priced at less than $1 a blade - 10 blades for $8.97.  That's cheaper than getting sensor blades at Costco!   O0

I agree, and so far it's the Atra plus for me. I just bought a generic double of the atra yesterday (made by Kroger ). I will let you know how it goes.

I will wait for your review before I order the doubles by HB. Somehow, I think this is going to be good if you find them similar to the atra's, lol.

First, I have to say that the guys at Head Blade are super nice, and have bent over backwards to help me with questions and finding products.

That said, I have used Head Blade's blades, and I have used my Mach 3, and hands down, the Mach 3 gives a better shave. I don't know if the blade makes as much difference as the handle, but I can shave in half the time, and get a closer shave, with my Mach 3.

I love the guys at Head Blade, and I think they have a nifty and unique product, but for me, it's not the best choice.

X, did you ever get around to using the Headblade doubles yet?, wondering how it went, and if you recommend giving them a shot.

Yeah, I was wondering myself if anyone ever got around to using the dubs from HB to give a review.  I was about to order some but I was hoping for a review first.  I guess I'll just go ahead and order them and I'll post a review if nobody else beats me to it.

Hey man, I should have a review up in a couple of days.  I got hooked up with a pack when I made a visit to HeadBladea a couple of weeks ago.

Personally, I find the Atra Plus gives me a much better shave than either the HB Doubles or triples.  I know some people swear by them, but since each dome and face are different, people will have different experiences with different blades...

Rob, I agree on the Atra plus as one of the top blades. I tried the Sensor last week and found it to be on par.
However, I am very unhappy with the HB triple replacement blades, they s**k!   >:(
Been using them this week and have gotten uncomfortable, lousy shaves. They dig in, and just drag. Then I must overcompensate and start doing wheelies!, end up having to do more passes, and that of course, leads to more irritation. And I get velcro much quicker, just not a good close shave.

I hope the doubles are much better.

I've got three unused triple cartridges, who wants em'?

Overall I'm finding that the HeadBlade doubles are giving me about the same shave as I get with the Atra blades.
