Maintaining my 3 day stubble???

So I've been getting lazy lately and have been shaving every 3-4 days. In doing this, I have grown to like the 3 day stubble. It's kinda nice. I like the way that it looks ans it's got a velvet feel and isn't like velcro like the 1-2 day growth is. But since I have no idea how to maintain that, I just shave and grow it back. I really don't know if I want to try though because I have a feeling that I'll have to use clippers and have to deal with all of the tiny hair clipping mess as well as always wondering if it's even. Any ideas on how to maintain this???

I actually have one of those.  I used it for years to maintain my short haircut back when I had hair.  It works well for reducing the mess.
