Dry skin on top of head
« on: March 18, 2015, 01:00:47 PM »
Hi everyone, I recently started shaving my head (it's been about 2 months) and have recently noticed that my head seems to be a bit dry after shaving in the mornings, with little small but slightly noticeable dry flakes of skin remaining post-shave. I have bought practically every product that headblade sells as I've heard good things about them, and thus far had good experience with them. I typically use headblade's exfoliator to clean my head in the shower, then shave post-shower using headblade's shaving cream. I also use the headblade atx, and after shaving use their moisturizer. Despite this routine it seems as if I have bits of dry skin that remain on my head. I tend to add a little more moisturizer but this problems still doesn't seem to abate too much. I'm wondering if anyone's experienced something similar or has suggestions as to what would solve this problem. Thanks

I don't know much about the Headblade products but many guys on here do. As far as post shave moisturizer goes, try a little bit of 100% pure aloe vera gel. That is always my go to for dry skin and it instantly relieves me as far as itchiness goes and helps with the flaking too.

If it includes a red & or raised area, it could be seborrhea (typical dandruff).  Use a dandruff shampoo like Selsun Blue every other day for 2 weeks to see if there's a difference.

It it's tender, you're traumatizing that sensitive area.  Try to stop going for BBS for a while, but don't stop shaving.  Your scalp will become accustomed and you'll be able to go back to BBS later.

If it's just dry and flakey (not red, raised, or tender).  Try Corn Husker's. (Yes, you can use it on your scalp.)

Remember, most moisturizers actually prevent water loss more than providing the moisture.  They are best applied immediately after washing the area or even while it's still a little wet.

Also, over use of moisturizing can cause a paradoxical effect (your skin defends against the excessive oil and actually causes the opposite of the desired effect.)

Thanks for the advice, I might try some aloe vera as my head isn't really red or tender. I was also wondering what you guys use as a mattify-er, as my head seems to be ridiculusssly shiny. I've used the headblade matte, and headblade spf both to no avail. I've even tried "Formula 10.0.6 Seriously Shine Free Mattifying Oil-Free Moisturizer," and it doesn't seem to have that much of a matte effect. The previously mentioned products definitely do dull the shine a little, but it doesn't seem to do it all that noticeably, or at least to a point where light isn't reflecting off my dome like a lighthouse. Also does anyone do anything mid day to keep shine down? Thanks!

I use a coconut oil/almond oil/tea tree oil mix.
