Newbie with HeadBlade - How often to change cartridges?

I just had my head shaved for the first time Saturday as part of a St Baldrick's fundraiser.  So far, so good.  Loving the look.

I had lurked on the forums here for some time, getting advice because I plan on keeping the look for a while (many thanks for all the tips, past and future).  So I picked up a HeadBlade ATX, some HeadSlick, Witch Hazel, and After Shave balm, and through 2 days I'm happy with the results--haven't cut myself up at all.

My biggest concern is getting stuck with a dull blade.  How often do daily shavers change cartridges with something like the HB4? Do any blades last particularly longer or shorter than the HB4 before dulling?

I change my headblade blades about once a week, but I don't shave daily, so maybe more often for a daily shaver.

Welcome! This is definitely a Great source of information and help with all things head shaving. Typically i can get 5-7 shaves in before i have to change the cacartridge and i have very coarse hair. I shave daily, when i have the extra time I'll use a DE razor but opt for the headblade if I've only got a few minutes and it has worked great for me! Ymmv though

If I'm only using the headblade, I find that it lasts 5-7 shaves at most.  I have a full head of hair, so it's a bit more hair to trim/shave than a naturally balding guy.

Now that I'm getting into DE shaving, I let the DE do most of the work, and my headblade is lasting 2 weeks or more because it's just cleaning up what I missed with the DE.  And the DE blades are cheaper.

I find that blades last much longer for me than other guys report.  So it's totally up to you...for me, if the blade feels like it's pulling, rather than gliding, that's my signal to replace it.

You look very proper with the bald head, beard and bow tie. I hope you like it enough to never go back to hair.  I find myself in that situation.

Thanks all.  I appreciate the advice and input.

I'm a bit afraid to try DE just yet; figured I'd give the dome a couple months to toughen up and get used to the scraping before I give that a shot.

I'm still pretty new on the DE. Just got it in January.  At first, I took it really easy, not expecting a close shave, but just to get used to the new device and learn how it works.  It just takes some time to figure it out and how to use the device.

I haven't used my headblade for sometime now, maybe a year or so.
Switched to A Gillette Ultra and following advice I read on this forum about cleaning, rinsing in Alcohol, and drying, I can easily get a month or more, and that is face and head shaving daily.
Actually I only change them out then because I feel I should and not because it's not shaving well.

Hi Scags, I just wanted to tell you I like the bald look on you. If you keep shaving for a couple of months, you probably will keep it. I'm 6 weeks into growing my hair back, and I fight the urge to shave my head everyday. I've tried to grow it back several times, but always go back to bald.

I switched over to DE shaving after about a year of headshaving. I really enjoy shaving with the DE, although it takes a little more time. Good luck, and welcome to the bald life!
