Headblade type razor for double edge blades ?
« on: February 28, 2015, 03:09:32 PM »
Hi guys,  I shave my face with a DE razor and love it.  I also get great results on my dome but it takes way too long.  Does anyone make something like a headblade for DE ?  It would be nice to buy just one type of blades and economical too. It doesn't seem like it would be very hard to make an adapter or something.

Welcome!

Unfortunately, as far as I know, there is no such thing as a Headblade with a DE razor. Maybe try a shavette or straight razor? Maybe we could make a suggestion to the Headblade company.

As a compromise, I start out on my head with a DE. Mow down most of the stubble.  When I run out of 'time', I switch to the headblade and finish up.  Get the best of both worlds.  The headblade blade lasts longer because it's not cutting as much hair, and I'm learning to do the DE.  I find I'm getting faster, and certain spots on my head are getting pretty smooth with the DE, but not everywhere.  Just being cautious. Don't need a blood bath from my head and a hurried DE razor. LOL.

I sent them an email.  I might try to build an adapter in solidworks and 3D print it when I have some free time this summer.  To me the biggest advantage of using a DE razor on my head has been that it tends to clog up less than multi blade razors when shaving after my hair has grown a few days.  But unfortunately it is still a lot faster to just use electric clippers to trim it down to 00000 and then use the head blade to go completely bald.  It just takes way too long to angle a DE razor correctly. I like to go completely bald since the top of my head is already there lol  I am just surprised that this has not come up before.

It might just be me, but I'm not sure it would be very safe.  The #1 rule of DE shaving is NO PRESSURE.  It's important for a number of reasons, but one of the big ones is that the pressure is concentrated onto a single blade.  On a cart, it's spread out across the blades.  I'm Not sure how you would accomplish a no pressure shave with a head-blade type handle.
