What kind of razor should I be using?
« on: January 26, 2015, 03:00:45 PM »
Hello all, I am 30 and after trying desperately to prevent my hair from falling out, I decided to beat the inevitable and shave it off, and I am glad I did! I've been trying to read up on the different razors. I've been using a Gillete Fusion, it seems to do the job, but I can still see and feel hair. I've been looking into the safety razors. How hard are they to use without cutting up my scalp? Does anyone have any other recommendations? I'll attach a picture of me.

Welcome, the pic looks very good.  I use the Headblade ATX, and I like it.  But everyone has their own default.

Welcome. The sly look works well for you

My vote would be to go for the DE Safety Razor.

I use a safety razor on the scalp (also use the ATX for a final pass to get any spots I may have missed).  I've been using it on my head for about 2 years.   Personally, I don't find it difficult to use ... at least now I don't.  However, when first starting out I'd nick myself or use too much pressure and my skin would get irritated.  After I refined the technique a bit, the shaves seem to be much better and closer.

Plus I like the experience better.  I like using a brush and like trying a lot of pre-shave oil, shaving soaps, and creams that are out there.

I just stick with the Gillette Mach 3 razor, I started using it (on my face at about 18) prior to that cheapo disposables.  I tried electric razors but i always found they left a patchy cut.  I'm a similar age to you (will turn 30 this year) I admit I'm not a big one for change, but its served me well over the last 10+ years
God created only a few perfect heads, the rest he covered with hair!

Check out the weishi long handle razor.  I think it will work well for you and provide a nice close shave.

Welcome to the group. Looks good.  I've been using the Fusion ProGlide and it works great for me, smooth, smooth, smooth.  I have been curious about the DE razors as many here have adopted it to their head shaving routine.  Time is my enemy though and don't have the 30-45 minutes to spare when shaving my head.
My granddaddy once told me, "If you can't hack it, gecho' jacket!"

I found that the Fusion worked GREAT and I still use it to touch up the hard to shave places. Have you gone against the grain at all? If you don't have sensitive skin ( thankfully I don't) an against the grain shave leave me super smooth.
