Time for a change

Hello,
I've been fast losing my hair for 2 years now and went through the usual tortuous debate of do I treat my hairloss with drugs. In the end I decided not to take finasteride as my hairloss was so aggressive I felt it would not stop it and would only prolong the experience of losing my hair. I bought some hair clippers 6 months ago and have been buzzing down my hair to anywhere between 3 and 5mm. Having never had my hair so short ever in my life if was a bit of a shock at first but now I much prefer it. Sadly the hairloss is progressing quickly and I'm almost at the point where I would like to try shaving it off for the first time. I would like to put hairloss out of my mind and move on, I think shaving is going to be the best way to achieve this.

Welcome to SBG. You'll find some good advice here and a group of friendly guys.
I'd suggest that you work your way down with the clippers. Say 1 mm per week or 2 weeks. In the process, buzz your head every few days at the set length, partly to get in the habit of daily hair care and partly to keep the length uniform from day to day. Buzzing like this is very fast. Does not take long, but keeps your appearance consistent from day to day. After a week or two shorten the guard. If you have variable clippers which offer adjustment between guard sizes, use that too, to minimize the change from week to week.
In a few months, you'll be down to buzzing your head with no guard. You'll look almost bald. Now you are ready for the razor and the very smooth feel of a fresh shave each morning on top of your head.
The change to those around you will be gradual and most will not notice, you just gradually have shorter and shorter hair (what's left), until it fades into SBG, and there you have it.
Let us know how it goes.

Shaving your head will definitely accomplish what you want. It will get your hair loss off your mind and allow you to move on. You've got better things to focus on. You should do it.

Welcome to the board, Gavin.
It sounds like you have made your decision. That is the second big step. The first was deciding not to try to mess with your body's chemistry.
I also think going smooth will accomplish your goal. Let's see the pic when you do it.
Glad you joined us, sir.

I echo my fellow SBGs Gavin. It is the six month mark today for me going bald for good and I haven't one ounce of regret. Like Mike said, you don't deserve to have hair loss constantly on your mind.

not much to add, Great advice as usual, no one on here is going to try to convince you to not buzz or shave, or get a rug.... sorry "hair system" nothing works... its all about making money from your anxiety.... quickest way to stop all the worry, is to buzz it and get on with the important things in life.... worrying about what people will say has to be one of the biggest wastes of time I can think of, but most of us go through it, so we understand.... but most, if not all, will tell you that once it's done, you'll wonder why you prolonged the agony lol.... good luck with your choice.... for me and my fellow brothers, there was only ever one choice

I started shaving my head in 1983 and it was one of the best things I ever did. Second best thing has been to stop fretting over weight....
