Got an unexpected bit of encouragement
« on: September 15, 2014, 09:23:33 PM »
I am down in Chattanooga for a few days with my car club.  This is the last chance I will have to drive my car until nextApril!

The bartender at the hotel has a nice full Flattop-and you know how easily I get Flattop envy!

I told him that I had recently gone from a lifetime Flattop to bald by choice.  At first he seemed a bit taken aback. Then I showed him my drivers license photo.  Without my even asking him he said that I look better bald!  He said that it suits me better than the flattop!

(Now if only my Mom would react that way when I get home!)

Well, Bill, not sure if your comment was supposed to be funny, but it is kind of rude. BBC is a just another style choice, as is ear rings, tattoos, etc. Personally, I like the way it looks, I enjoy shaving, and keeps my dermatitis in check.

NJBill:

See I think that you are still viewing natural male baldness as some kind of "disability" or some kind of calamitous "cross to bear".

What all of the guys on this board are trying to tell you is that it is NOT a "bad" thing.  It is only "bad" if you ascribe that value to it!  And the guys on this board choose not to be "Victims" anymore.

MPB is just MPB.  Hair is just hair.  It is really just a bunch of dead keratin hanging off of your living scalp.

A shaved head is just another style.  If you choose not to shave your head and keep an MPB fringe - well that is fine.  Many of the guys on this board who have MPB prefer the bald look and, in fact, find it very freeing; they no longer have to devote mental energy to the fact that they are losing a portion of their hair

There are also guys on this board who do not have MPB, or whose hair is evenly "thinning" but just don't like the way it looks.  It may not be the nicest hair.  It may be thin.  It may be gray.  It may make them feel that it makes them feel older.  Or, they just like the freedom of the shaved head.  Or, they may feel that a shaved head really expresses their personality.

Personally, I probably have enough thin wispy hair to pull off a wispy flattop, for a while yet,  - and I will probably do that again next summer.  And, truth be told, some people tell me that I honestly look better with a tiny bit of hair, even if it is a high and tight or a bald fade; so I might fly that model sometimes too.

But sometimes, my inner self wants to come out - and MY inner self is a Bold Bald Bad-Ass (BBBA) ALPHA[SQUARED] MALE! So if my shaved head is a little "in your face" to some people - then I say to those people; "that is your problem; get over it"!

I have to think njbill was just joking. All of you guys are right. It is just a haircut and we shouldn't place a lot of value on hair. However, no one who is BBC knows what it's like NOT to have a choice. It's easy to say it's only hair when you can grow yours back.

Not for everyone: I couldn't grow my hair back even with superpowers and I've always had the "It's only hair" attitude even when younger.

Yea this.. when you have no other options, and you have an enormus misshapen head, it kinda blows.

I have been working out for years ,but  cant get my shoulders and traps big enough to balance out my huge head.

When I was active duty Regular Army decades ago, I wore a shaved high and tight flat top in garrison and then shaved for the field. I remember when i started shaving it slick all the time buddies mentioned they knew it was a matter of time before the flat top was gone for good. Flat tops are sharp haircuts though.
