Long time Sly, Newbie here
« on: September 08, 2014, 04:47:58 PM »
June made 18 years since I went Sly, I did it back then due to male pattern baldness but I've been happy with the results.  It changed others perception of me (including more searches from US Customs when returning from business trips) and I think it even changed my personality a bit, and my choice in clothes.

I arrived here, at Sly Bald Guys, last week searching for answers to DE shaving, and I found plenty, thanks!  I, like many, turned to DE shaving looking for alternatives to the exorbitant cost of disposable multi-blade razors.

After much reading here, and a few other sources, I purchased a Microtouch One safety razor and Van der Hagen brush/mug/soap set at Walgreens yesterday. Thanks to whomever mentioned they were located in the "As Seen on TV" section at Walgreens. The previous day I had been to Walgreens and CVS looking for a razor, but both only carried DE blades, but on razors, in their shaving section.

I didn't have to work today, so I took a hot shower this afternoon then jumped into my first attempt at DE shaving.  I had watched a few vids on youtube, specifically by mantic59 and geofatboy, and really didn't face any hurdles that couldn't be over come.  I normally have a chin beard, but decided today to shave it along with everything else.  I'll grow it back, the chin was one of the more difficult areas to shave today.

One of my concerns was the ridges and valleys on the back of head, but that was easier than expected.  I still have a bit of fuzz in the valleys, but pretty sure its less than with the multi-blade razors, and I'm sure it will improve with practice.

I'll post a before and after pic in the Sly Gallery.

I'm sure you could tell us a few things after being sly for over 18 years!  Pretty impressive, happybudda.

I have only used the disposable multi-blades on my face and head.  Maybe one day I will venture into something else.

Welcome.

Your post is yet another that "life without hair" can be great. It really is what you make of it and how you approach it.

Completely agree Frontier Guy, after I first shaved my head, every woman I knew, except my mother, liked it.  Even my mother came around eventually ;-)

Welcome
