Hi, And Thanks
« on: August 22, 2014, 04:36:18 AM »
Been lurking a bit on here for a while. But never registered. I'm 39, and I've been through a lot. When I was young I had T-Cell Leukaemia twice. Lost my hair. Went through the whole chemo thing twice. And here I am today.

The point being, through all that treatment and fighting, it's left me looking way younger than I should, which for me has always been a touchy thing. And unable to grow a beard or much facial hair. Which in turn adds to the insecurities. I'd love to be able to grow a goatee lol. But will never happen in my lifetime.

Well like I say, I've been lurking here for a while. And a week ago I got the courage to get the clippers out lol. I've always wanted to try it, but lacked the confidence. After reading some inspiring stories on here from both chemo patients and people who are just BBC, I decided sod it, let's do it. I buzzed right down to the lowest setting. AND I LOVE IT. It's actually made me look more my age. And my confidence has improved immensely.

So thank you guys. Keep up the good work.

I'm itching to shave it now. But need to let the air and sun get to it a bit first, my skin is pale anyway, and my head is very light. I also seem very prone to getting a big red rash when shaving it, so a little patience may be required.

Welcome, Narny!

I'm glad you are feeling more confident from shaving your head.  Most of us feel the same way.

Enjoy the sun on your head!

Welcome, Narny.  Congratulations on taking charge of your hairstyle.  I have a personal friend that also had Leukaemia twice, once at age 2-3, and once at 12.  The treatments left him with some life long side affects to deal with, but he remains cancer free.  He, however, can grow a massive beard.  Good luch with the hairstyle, and your health.

BBC here myself.I love the look. A real keeper.

Glad you like it.  Give your head a little time to tan.  Keep the zero buzz going every day or every other day to avoid shade on your scalp.  Also good practice for daily shaving of your head.

When you start shaving your head. Go a week or so with the grain first to minimize the discomfort.

Thank you for sharing your story Narny, certainly sounds like you've been through a bit that's for sure. Just wanted to say that yes..patience is important with the shaving and by the sound of it you're on your way with it all. Well done and thanks again.
