What razor should i use to shave my head?
«

Hey guys I'm new to this forum, and what a nice way to make bald people unite and help eachother out. I'm very thankful to the makers of this.
Basically....
I was wondering which would be better to shave my head. An electric shaver, or a manual razor (disposable razor).
Ive currently tried shaving my head using a 2 bladed disposable razor. I ended up with so many cuts, and it was too hard for me to shave my head as it kept slipping and sliding. The razor that i had used is shown in the attatched image.
Furthermore could anyone please recommend any shaving tools?
Thanks.

Ditch the electric shaver nothing compares to the closeness of a razor. The general consensus here seems to be that DE ( double edged safety razor) is the best shave out there, but it will take you even longer to learn get a nick free shave ( I've tried a few times with the DE I use to trim my beard and got some pretty nasty cuts)
Personally right now as I wait for my scalp to heal up before attempting the DE I use the Gilette Fusion if I shave in the shower or the Gillette Powerball when doing it at the sink. Although I agree with the majority of people here that more blades does not equal a better shave, I feel that the fact that the heat on the Fusion pivets back and forth on 1 axis help accommodate for the terrain of my head and the power does this even better with a 2 axis joint. While learning the ins and outs of shaving my head I find this gets me "close enough" of a shave and if forgiving enough for a newbie.
Remember limit the pressure you use and take your time. Treat the time you take shaving as a special treat for yourself. It is an art form. Not a chore.

Thanks bud for the response it means a lot
. i also watched some videos on youtube and noticed everyone that used an expensive razor with more blades had a cleaner and easier shave.
Can the razors you use be cleaned ready for re use. As a student im on quite a tight budget. Id say Id spend £10 on razors for my head alone for four weeks.
I was thinking of buying this razor, the one shown in the link.
http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/shop/gb/groceries/mens-razors---blades/gillette-fusion-proglide-man-razor-1-up
Is there any similar to what is shown in the link but with cheaper prices for replaceable blades.

You already discovered why those razors are disposable. They are trash. I would not use one on my head. Never.
Like Nick, I am sold on the Fusion. I really like the Fusion Proglide and how it follows the contours of my head. Using a preshave oil to lubricate the scalp before lathering up really cuts down on friction and nicks as well, and it gets me a far smoother result.
Glad you joined us, sir!

The razor you linked to is what I use in the show. The cartridges are expensive though ( one of the man factors of so many of Sly brethren ( and sisteren) have converted to DE. You can get 100 blades for a DE for under $20 from Amazon where in Fusion cartridge land $20 might get you 4.
I'd say get the Fusion to teach yourself the way of the Sly and then upgrade to DE when you have a chance ( or conveniently have a birthday or Christmas type thing to get one as a gift)

Like the others said the fusion it cost more but you will cut yourself less.
I tried a two blade and it left little 2 blade tracks on my head.
More blades don't cut closer. Ever see the guy that walks on glass or on a bed of nails? Walk on one piece of glass or one nail and you get cut. Its the force per unit area of skin and why 5 blades can be safer than one. You could still cut yourself you would just need more pressure.

I'm a fan of the headblade for now. Planning to switch to DE once my confidence improves after some time on my face.
Whatever you use, take your time. Most nicks and cuts are going to be a result of trying to do too much too fast. Another important factor is preparation. There are lots of ideas and philosophies out there but one universal is that prep time makes for more comfortable and much higher quality shaves.

A big thank you to everyone for taking time to reply to this thread.
Just to confirm is the razor in the attatched image to this post, the same as what nick2401 described as being the double edged safety razor.
I just needed to be sure before progressing further, as its my first time actually coming across this type of razor.

While I'm firmly in the Safety razor camp, I say try out a few different options and decide which one works best for you and which one you like best.
I started with a disposable razor and got wicked razor burn, I moved on to Headblade then tried a few various options before landing on Safety razor shaving.

I started with a very expensive Andis electric shaver; But in the end; they cant keep up!
Now, I use a pretty inexpensive double edge safety razor with shaving soap.
I lather and apply it with a shaving brush, and take my time.
When jobs done, you could spin on it like a top.
As you can see on the left, A fresh shaved head with electric and youll still have a shadow.

I'm a huge fan of the Headblade Sport. Just don't press like I did my first few times....just set it on your head and let the blade to the work.

I've shaved my dome with many different razors...from DE safety razors, to fusions and mach III's, and to the Headblade ATX.
The DE's always drew blood with me...I have a hard time with shaving a spot I can't see. Ergo, the back of the dome.
DE's are my razors in shaving my face, but I stopped shaving the dome with them.
The Mach III and Fusion's work well for me as does the Headblade ATX.

I've also made the switch to a DE razor. If you can settle into the same setup and have the willpower to avoid too much experimentation, it's orders of magnitude cheaper.
If you aren't quite willing to make that commitment yet, check out
www.dorcousa.com
. These are the same cartridges used by dollarshaveclub, but they're cheaper if you go direct to DORCO. I used their 6-blade cartridge razor for almost 2 years before making the switch to the DE. It's almost as good as the Fusion, and about 1/3rd of the price.

I too use the DE for my shaving routine. Although you have to take a little more time, it's a cheaper route.
Regarding cartridges, I've used both the Headblade and Fusion. They work as well too. In fact, I keep a pack of Fusion disposables at my job's gym locker in the event I need an after-work touch up.
