shaving advice?
« on: August 15, 2014, 11:41:12 AM »
if you can't tell i have kinda become obsessed with this site
so i will be buzzing off my hair in september then for halloween i will be shaving it bald (and if i like it i will do the 30 day rule)
I'm planning to buy some baby oil for my first shave so my question is do you put the oil on then shaving cream or do you just use the oil to shave?

Skip the baby oil and buy a pre-shave oil like Shave Secret. It will not clog the blade and has a better mix for your scalp.

Warm up your scalp first with hot water, then apply the oil, then the lather.

Shave Secret is good because it is inexpensive and you can find it locally at WalMart and drug stores.  Personally, I wasn't crazy about the touch of menthol, or the clove smell.  Taconic is another inexpensive alternative that fixes those two problems for me, but I can't get it locally so I have to order online.

I use baby oil and do fine with it. I've not tried the Shave Secret since I've read it has menthol in it.  I have sensitive skin and I've heard menthol irritates it. Has anyone on here with sensitive skin used Shave Secret and it did all right?

Going back to baby oil and what Cave said, it will clog the razor.

I se baby oil and then a few drops of shavers secret. Next I apply shaving lather with a good shaving brush. THis routine gives me a great shave most of the time.
