debating the switch from buzz to shave
« on: August 08, 2014, 01:35:05 PM »
so i'm currently buzzing it with a grade 2 clip, and i'm ok with it
considering switching to a razor, or at least trying it once, and it can be a kinda daunting prospect
wondering if you wonderful people think i'd look decent bald and shiny?
thanks

Kolo,

You look good now and really, you're almost there.  Shaving with a razor is not going to make a drastic change to your appearance - you'll look good razor shaved too.

It was a daunting prospect for me, also.  I had been buzzing my head close for years.  Last summer, I took the plunge and razor shaved.  To my surprise, no one really noticed!  Since joining SBGs last fall, I have been totally converted to shaving and I don't use my clippers at all anymore.

I think you'll be a convert, too. Try it and give it a chance.  If you don't like it, it won't take long to grow your hair back to the way it is now.

Hi kolo, and welcome to the forum! I think that a shaved head would suit you well. And since you have light colored hair, it would not be such a big change. So give it a try and get out your razor, shaving cream and shave away.  :)

And if it does not work out, your hair will grow back, so don't panic.

Keep us posted.

It will look good, but if you have some concerns about razor shaving cold turkey, just take it slow.  Since you are currently using a #2 guard, you can transitions to razor smooth gradually by going to a #1 for a week or so, then no guard for another week, and then razor shave.  There is not much visual difference, but most razor shavers really like the smooth feeling as much as the shinny look.

If you have not shaved it before you will like the feel of it. You are almost there now. If you shaved it and didn't like it, would only take a few days to grow back what you have now.

shine and share

To modify an old joke about the man who was falling off a fifty story building and as he was passing the tenth floor from the ground someone called from the window, "How are things going?" and he said, "Fine so far."  You are so close to the ground that you might as well be there... but you can have a soft landing.  It's just hair and you have it so short now that probably (as said above) no one will notice.  Don't be disappointed if this is the response to shaving it.  If you hate it (you won't be mocked in the street, however), you can get back up to the tenth floor in no time at all (about two weeks), and start to worry about something else.  Climate change, maybe.

If you have that itch to shave, the only way you will ever get past it is to do it.

As the gentlemen before me have said, your head has a good shape. You will look fine.

And welcome!

Go for it.  I agree with all of the advice above; good shaped head, light colored hair, etc.

The only additional advice I might offer is to adhere to the 30 day rule.  I'll lay you 10 to 1 that if you do the 30 day rule you will not even think about growing that shadow back.

You look very good with the short buzz.  I suspect you'd look equally good shaved.  I find that is usually the case.  So I'd advise you to go for it.
