The weather
« on: August 06, 2014, 06:33:36 PM »
Well, my ship and the state of Hawai'i are bracing for an unusual weather event: back-to-back hurricanes. Hurricane Iselle is due to hit sometime tomorrow with Hurricane Jose due to arrive early next week. It's gonna be interesting!

It's beautiful here today and forecast the same for Thursday, but then heavy rain all weekend.  My youngest daughter is planning an outdoor wedding and reception during 100% chance of thunderstorms.  Will be interesting.

Well, we'll be heading out to sea in about 6 hours with the worst of the due to hit the islands about 4 hours later. We'll spend all day tomorrow riding it out and, hopefully, pull into Honolulu as scheduled Saturday morning. No word yet on whether or not Hurricane Julio will affect us.

In south Texas, people go bat (stuff) whenever a hurricane is headed our way. Grocery and hardware stores are emptied, and there usually is a massive evacuation out of the storm's path.

I have boarded up and sandbagged buildings for two of them when we were in their paths. I cannot fathom riding one out on a boat. I guess it saves the boat from slamming into the dock or being swept onto land?

Stay safe!

Thanks, guys. And you got it right, Cave Dweller. By going out to sea we can head to the opposite side of the islands from where the storm is and avoid any potential injuries or damage to the ship. I'll post an update when I can.

Fortunately, I've got an inside room so it doesn't have a porthole.

Hope you make it out alright! Here in Eastern Washington, we had a nasty storm about July 23 that brought 70 MPH winds and nasty hail. We were without power for 22 hours (no power=no water since we have a well) so it was interesting at work to say the least. Then last Saturday we got slammed with another wind storm that was clocked at 100 mph winds in some spots. That uprooted tons and tons of trees everywhere. We lost 3 trees and our router was fried when the first storm came through.

Those big storms can be nasty. Fortunately, yesterday,Hurricane Julio got downgraded from a category 3 to a category 1 and set off on a course away from the islands. We're out of danger now and we've resumed our normal itinerary.
