Earliest memory that you can recall from your child hood?
« on: August 08, 2007, 10:54:13 PM »
See how far back you all can remember about your child hood.

My earliest memory is of me when I was about 3 years old and I had ..well my mom still has it stored away somewhere....one of those monkeys with the black and yellow outfits on and a red bowtie.  The monkey has a rubber face hands and white tennis shoes on ..and is holding a banana....remember those from teh early 70's?  well mine had a name ..I named it cootsie... and i remember everyday I would sit out on the fron step and feed it choc. pudding....it was the DelMonte choc. pudding you would get in those little metal cans where you had to pull the top off.  Anyways..thats my earliest memory

I guess when I was 3 years old, chowing down on some BBQ ribs. Or spaghetti with meatballs. I was always eating, so it's easy to look back. My mom has pictures of it, and I remember as if it were 5 minutes ago.

In fact, I remember around the same age getting onto the dinner table and pushing a watermelon onto the floor. My mom has a picture of that as well....

Yeah, I was a tubby even then. Giggity.

s'funny .... I was chatting about this very subject with a couple of friends yesterday who have a young baby themselves. One of my earliest memories is looking through the bars of my play pen as a baby. Also got a memory of being pushed in my pushchair by my mum ... I remember some older kids coming towards us & me feeling embarrassed that I was still in my push chair when I felt I was old enough to walk  Guess  I was maybe about 3 years old

I have a memory of getting lost in a theme park when I was four and a kind stranger took me to a policeman, who then took me to some kind of office where I was given sweets while someone called out for my grandparents over a tannoy. (have no idea how to spell it!) I can remember my Nan being really pleased to see me and me being quite bemused by the whole situation.
Memories like that tend to be a bit surreal to me now.

The earliest memories I have are of some of my childhood toys.  I had a brown teddy bear amed Bif that also had a pull string and he would say "HI, My name is Bif".  I also remember having one of those little metal cars that kids could sit in and pedal and drive around the yard.  I also had a play tractor with pedals.  Wish I still had those.  Sure that they would be worth some bucks now.

Walking into the first daycare I ever went to, walking right up to a little tower that some kid was building with blocks, and knocking them down.  Then having the teacher tell my mom I can't do stuff like that and getting yelled at.  There was a lot more to come of that in the future.  Shoot....I'm still getting yelled at.

Falling into the pool at age 2 or 3.  Recall sinking like a stone facing the surface and seeing my parents at the edge of the pool.

This subject came up in my family not too long ago. I told my Mom that I had recall something from the age of 3. I remember our apartment that we lived in before Mom and Dad bought our first house. She didn't believe me and I made a floor plan of the place. She said that it wasn't exact, but extremely close. Why I remember that, I have no idea. I also remember in that same apartment my Dad smoking pipes. He only did that for a very brief period of time, and only in that apartment.

Isnt it funny though on the things we remember and all.  I also remember a time back in 1974 when i was just 4.  I remember my dad gettin me up early ..it was winter time and it was still dark out and he had to take me to my aunts house because my mom was in the hospital gettin ready to have my lil brother.  My dad was a welder at a train boxcar factor and i can still sorta smell that smell he had about him from all the metals and stuff at work.  And on that exact morning he was getting me dressed..and being that Dad "never" dressed me before because mom always did it. He couldnt find my socks so he pulls out a pair of dress socks from his drawer and I remember him putting them on my feet and "folding" the toe of the sock underneath and then sliding my shoes on.  I just sit and smile about that because to this day I can not stand it when my socks tend to slide down some.....i would rather go without socks then to have socks that dont fit me.

my earliest memory would have to be when I was about six. There was this girl my age that I was playing with. Her parents were friends of the family. I had a kiddie crush on her and tried sneak a kiss at the top of our stairs. I vividly remember flying backwards down those stairs after she donkey kicked me. Rolled about three times and slammed into the wall.

 Damn love is painful :XX

I remember a lot of playmates, feeling a lot of jerking and pounding than rushing through a long hard tube and shooting into a warm, moist, dark cave. I lost all of those playmates but joined up with another. I think that is what happened.

I have a vague recollection of falling out of my Grandfather's 1949 Chevrolet and getting stitches on my chin.  I was 2; that would have been about 1962.  I remember falling and then later being in the ER.  I also remember, in 1963, being in the Big Apple Supermarket.  A lady came up to my mother; she was crying.  We went and got in our 1958 Ford and turned on the radio.  Mother told me that "a very mean man" had killed the President.

Strange how I tie cars with those two memories.
