Hi,
I'm new to the sly club; got my first straight razor headshave this weekend. So far I like it, but have a couple questions. How long should I keep it to decide if I like it or not? How often do I need to shave it to keep it looking bald? I'm a little intimidated by shaving my own head with a razor; is it hard? Are there alternatives to using a razor the will get it close to the skin?
Thanks.
Hey Nor_Cal, give it 30 days to see if you like it. If you're looking for an alternative to a safety razor, then you can always go with an electric shaver or a clipper like the
Wahl Balding Clipper.
Shaving isn't too hard and you'll get the hang of it quickly. Just make sure you use some good shaving cream and a good razor.
Honestly, shaving your head is like shaving your face, it just takes time and practice to get it right.
Start slow - head shaving isn't a race
The main thing to remember in shaving head is not to use much pressure, let thr razor do its job.
I have found that the Fusion razor is easiest to use with less irritation and cuts. They cost more but I'm worth it : )
To keep it smooth will mean shaving each day.
Try to keep it that way for thirty days this gives you and other people time to get use to it and your head time to adjust to being shaved.
You can try different creams and lotions see what works for you.
In between shave a good facial scrub is a good idea to keep the scalp clean and exfoliated.
I shave then apply witch hazel that gives it a good shine.
I shave every other day and that seems fine. Sometimes i do shave every day though. DE shaving is a good way to go but look at some videos on youtube for advice. DE shaving is a lot cheaper.
Having said that, i shaved with a Mach 3 earlier!
Looking to buy a Merkur Progress soon!
