DE Definitely better!
« on: July 25, 2014, 06:54:50 AM »
I bought some Mach 3 the other day and tried shaving head with one earlier.

Blimey, the difference is quite a lot compared to a DE. The DE is so much more efficient! The Mach 3 is, in my eyes, less efficient. The only good thing about it is the pressure you can apply knowing you are unlikely to get a cut. With a DE one has to be more careful.

The DE with one blade does a better job as far as i am concerned. This is my 'personal' view.

Thinking of buying a progress next as it would be great to be able to adjust a DE.

I haven't gone back to try a cart for comparison yet, but I definitely agree.  Not sure how long you've been using a DE on the dome or how tough your beard and skin are, but if you are looking for efficiency you might try a slant.  I've been using mine for a week now.  Much less razor burn and CCS in two passes.  I haven't tried ATG with it yet though.

I would also like to try an adjustable at some point, but I'm thinking an OC will be next for me.  I've just heard way too many good things about the NEW.

Been using a DE for several months now. Got a 37c and used it ATG too. For me, it performs the same as my EJD89L.

Looking to buy a Progress next

I thought about getting a progress a while ago - I ended up with a Futur.
It's kinds nice to be able to adjust a DE from mild to aggressive.

I was thinking of getting a Mergress XL (which is a progress with a metal adjustment knob), but I'm thinking my next one(s) will be something like a red tip and/or an adjustable fatboy (something vintage in the collection)...

The Progress is a wonderful razor.

I'm not personally a DE head shaver, but on the face I can do two-three passes at different settings and get a wonderful shave in a matter of minutes.  They're built like tanks as well!  :@`

will be interesting to read your review, I have a ej 37 and although it's a great shave on my face, like amazingly smooth, I have to go over a few places on my head with my mach 3, as I can't apply any pressure with the de or I cut.

Well, the Progress is a great razor but for me it is the same as the EJ, 37c! Now, with the Mach 3 i do get a more confident feel / cut (No nicks!).

Tried it with a few blades and it does cut well but like geeman i still have to go over sometimes with the Mach 3 to get a nice smooth head. Maybe a DE is not for me?

Goatee, the idea with a DE is to aim for beard reduction, not total removal.  That's why people generally do a pass with the grain, one or two across the grain, and then some people also do an against the grain.  Are you doing multiple passes like that and relathering between passes?

Yes, always done it that way. Takes several passes / re lathers.
