can you use any DE razor blade as a refill or does it specifically have to be the microtouch one blades

Any blade will work with the Microtouch....FWIW, I have yet to use the blades that came with mine, I've been using Wilkinsons and Astras....Starting to dislike the Derbys on the head for whatever reason though..

I'm having lots of trouble even shaving any hairs.  I feel like I tried every angle of the razor.  I just want to make sure I have it on right.  There is like the tiniest sliver of the blade showing right?

That is right. Only a tiny bit of blade will be exposed.

A lot is down to technique. The angle you hold the razor at is critical to getting a good shave. Practice will make perfect for you.

Lots of videos on youtube about DE shaving.

Remember to lather up properly. Take your time. Small strokes. Never shave an area without lathering it first. Only use the weight of the razor. No pushing down etc.

Thanks, I think part of my problem may have been that I was applying too little pressure.  I was holding the razor at the very very bottom of the handle.  But some videos I have just watched showed folks holding the handle in the middle instead.  May have to try that next time

You will hear the hair being cut. Listen and you can then judge if the angle is right. Dont press down. Let the razor do the work!

Ahhh, warms my heart that Goatee is a devoted DE shaver now! I remember when you were ready to give up and sell your DE equipment.

Love DE shaving now. Nothing like it and it saves quite a bit on those pesky carts! One blade is all a man needs

I've read or heard that the exposed part of the blade on the microtouch one is much less than other handles.  I'm having a tough time shaving, would I be better suited to buy a different razor where the blade would have more exposed?

You could buy an adjustable razor and see which 'gap' suits you!

I would try different blades before I would get a new razor. Your pre shave is most important too.

Finding the right angle, made easy:
Hold the razor against any flat surface then tilt it until the comb (the front of the razor) isn't obstructing the blade.
You may have to adjust the angle depending on your shaving surface.
