microtouch one safety razor
« on: February 18, 2014, 04:46:33 PM »
I just saw a commercial for this so I ordered one. For $18 on Amazon, I figure it should be worth it. It's $19 if you order from them directly, but I like to save money on shipping with Amazon. I'll be sure to leave my impressions of it after I get to use it.

That's nice.  I hear they shave similar to the vintage Gillette Super Speeds the one with the black handles.  Keep us posted and if you are able post some pics.

I'm keeping an eye out on eBay for a Gillette fatboy in good condition that isn't expensive.

It got here today, I haven't gotten to shave with it yet but so far I'm impressed with the build quality. The butterfly opening opens and closes easily and seems like it's going to be easy to keep clean. I'll update after a few uses to see how it holds up.
Update:
After the first use I can report that I think I'm going to like this razor, it is however lighter than a traditional DE but still gets the job done. I will have to try it out on the dome to see how it fairs. Since I'm currently bearded I don't have a lot of surface to test it on. I'll update this periodically and will give final judgement in a few days but right now I vote yay.

I've come to a final impression.
The light weight makes it perfect for head shaving. It's easy to clean and easy to remove the blade/put a new one in. I can fully endorse this razor. Since it's just plated chrome I question how well it will survive over time and if it'll be able to be passed from generation to generation, other than that it's great. Anyone looking to get into DE shaving this is a great start, and it's even great for seasoned DE shavers.

Funny thing: I found them available for purchase in Duane Reade. And of all places, in the South Bronx. Yes, I was surprised. Then again, the fact Wilkinson blades are easily available in local beauty supply and in dollar stores, shouldn't cause a surprise for a major drug store in the area to carry them.

I bought one on line a couple of months ago. I have used it a few times but am working on sharpening my technique for using a de razor. Mine did not come with an stand. Wish I had one or could get one. Mine came with about 12 extra blades at no extra charge. Glad to hear that You like it. I want to get better at using mine which will take some time.

Pro tips, 1 don't add pressure. 2) you can hear when you have the proper cutting angle. 3) divide your shaving surface into segments, top of head as one sides another the back the last segment the principal is to maintain control to avoid bloodshed.

It comes with some Dorco blades which I like. To make sure that the blades weren't the only reason the one rocks, I tried it with Astra blades (which I didn't like in my other razors) and still had excellent results. At the price around $20 it's low risk high reward. I'm confident it'll work out for you.
