Anyone tried pairing lectric shave with a DE?
« on: June 21, 2014, 11:33:48 AM »
Just wondering if anyone has tried it. Would it be worth picking up a bottle of it?

I've always wondered that as well.

I was in my local CVS once and an elderly gentleman was near me and I could tell he was having a hard time finding something.  I asked if I could help and he said he had to find his Lectric Shave as it's the only way he can shave.  At that point I'd never heard of it, but sure enough it was at the store on the bottom shelf.  Since then I've always thought of trying it.

Not with a DE but I've used it with my stick razor as well as my Panny. I dilute mine 50/50 with Osage Rub and then make real sure I clean them blades when I'm finished because I read in here at one time that there's something in Lectric Shave that speeds up corrosion of the blades.
It seems to me that I get an easier shave with LS than without it, not as much pulling and maybe even a bit closer. When I use it with a blade I put it on, let it dry and then apply some Head Slick over it.

Yeah I read the corrosion comment here in a different thread, which is why I wondered about pairing it with a DE (since those blades are easily replaced, hence corrosion isn't a factor).
Next time I'm at the store I think I'll pick up a bottle.

Day 1:
I didn't notice any discernible difference in the shave.

At first I tried using it like a preshave oil but it needs to be thicker so tomorrow I'm going to try it with some aloe.

It is my conclusion that Lectric shave doesn't work on the head, the smell is pleasant but other than that it has no true effect on the shave. I'm only out $6, not a tremendous loss but verdict is that it isn't worth it.
