My First 7 Days Sly :)
« on: May 04, 2014, 06:47:03 AM »
Wanted to share my exps. the first 7 days of my "30 Day Rule" to those on the fence. As I've read numerous times here as a lurker .. I can sum it up nicely .. "Why didn't I do this earlier?" I could of saved so much money going to the barber, and time. I would go once a week, $20 a clip.  :*)) .. I always would buzz to the .50 setting, so my first time I went to work with the sly, no one even noticed. Seriously, I did not get one comment .. "Oh, you shaved your head?" .. I was kinda pissed actually .. :Xo! .. I do walk around like more of a badass now though ..  :popo .. But seriously, what is not to like? You have a fresh cut, and shave daily .. Below is my routine, I have applied the same principles and ideas to my face shaves, bumps are practically nonexistent on my face .. Was a problem before for me .. This past week I shaved everyday, and changed razors twice .. This upcoming week I will shave every other day, see what that looks like. I am leaning towards shaving everyday, that sly feeling is addicting ..  Do you guys go "against the grain"? I am thinking of doing it today.

Routine ..
*Shower
*HeadSlick Application
*Gillette Fusion, Shave with the grain. (I am going to try against the grain today. Thoughts on this?)
*Hop back in shower, and rinse
*Ice cube rub face, and head
*Apply Witch Hazel (Stored in Fridge, Nice Cool Feeling)
*Apply Aloe Vera Gel on face, and head (Stored in Fridge, Nice Cool Feeling)

That is it .. Everyday the routine gets shorter and shorter .. No bumps or razor burns on my head .. Smooth Sailing ..

Hope this helps ..

Congratulations, Kenny!  It sounds as if you fit right in.  You look really great with the naked scalp ... it's definitely a keeper.

Same story here. When I first razor shaved, I got no comments, not even from my wife or kids. Then I realized that I pretty much looked bald with my buzz cuts with no guard. So the razor shaving did not make much of a difference in my appearance - just the feel.

If I wasn't so lazy, I would shave every day because I do like the process and the feel of a totally clean head. But for me, twice a week is fine.

Kenny, sounds like you are a confirmed Sly Guy. Nothing wrong with that.

Initially I was more a "with the grain" guy because my scalp was slightly sensitive ... but soon switched to "against the grain."

Now it's "against the grain" and then I do some "across the grain" (think halfway between "with" and "against") in some areas which need extra attention.

As the others have said, I think the look really suits you. Enjoy every minute of it.

Great to hear it is going well for you, sir.

I shave against then across the grain each time. It is the only way I can get my scalp down to completely smooth. The trick I learned is to use my free hand to pull the skin as tight as possible as I go. It reduces the risk of the skin getting in the way of the blade.

I've always shaved against the grain.  I do not have sensitive skin, though.  If you do, you may want to be careful.  Otherwise, it's the way to go, assuming you want as smooth a shave as is possible.
