New here ... need advice
« on: April 15, 2014, 02:43:50 PM »
Hey Sly Guys,

I've been mulling the idea of shaving my head. Skin. To the bone. I've been getting tight buzz cuts for a while, want to go all the way.

I'm in college, a little worried about how people would react.

Here's me:

Think it would suit me?  ::)

Josh

Welcome Josh,

You're so close to being "bald by choice" (BBC) I don't see any reason you shouldn't try it. I think you'll like it, and friends will adjust. Read the topic on the "30 Day Rule" for good points to make the change permanent (or at least give it a thorough test drive).

The photos look good, but you are definitely not too far from sly. I'll look great and won't be too drastic from the look you have now.

Josh, I agree that you would look great with a completely smooth scalp.  You're almost there already--go for it!  I don't imagine that your college friends would hassle you about it, but it all boils down to what YOU like.  When I was in college, only the military types had short haircuts (I can't remember any shaved heads), but that was in the Stone Age.  I think that, nowadays, pretty much every look is accepted on campus.

Go for it as a couple of passes with the razor and job done! Nothing to lose, just hair! Good luck

I agree with everyone else.  Go for it--if you don't like it, you'll be back to where you are right now in less than a month.  However, don't be surprised if you find that you like it too much to contemplate growing hair back!

Welcome, Josh! Give it a shot, you have the facial hair to complement it if you do it!

I believe it would be better shaved completely.  You are almost there anyway.

After looking at your pics you could easily just buzz your head with a buzzer at 0. This would leave the same amount of your hair you have on your sides when you buzz that area. If you really want to go all the way sly
then buzz it down and take a razor to it after. You have hair on top of your head, so you will surely have some
what of a shadow on top of your head, even with a razor. Pitt Bull the Rapper shaves his head. He is bald by choice and you can always see a slight shadow on his head. Either one would look just fine. Your hair is very short and buzzed on the back and sides, so a shave or buzzed head will not be such a shock. Its not like you are going from
long hair to a complete shave. I say go for it!

Buzzed my hair down to a 1, I think I have the right head shape for a shave. I have a head blade in the mail .. don't really like the look of a clipper shave so I'll wait until I get the razor to go all the way 8)

I'm excited ;) also, I'm looking forward to not having a grease/skin trap on my head. it's already so much better buzzed down to a 1.

also, what do you guys recommend as far as shaving cream/oil/soap goes? I'm fairly prone to razorburn, at least on my face. Should I only go with the grain at first? When can I start going against the grain for a smoother shave?

I'll post more pics when the deed is done. Hair is overrated. Maybe I can convince some of my classmates .. haha

Go with grain first. Order some Bump Patrol, this is great for razor burn etc. I only go against the grain now but i have been shaving since last year. Do so when you think your skin is ready.

I remember that feeling.  Good job on shaving your head. It's a really nice feeling.

Welcome, as another BBC guy.

You'll rock the look and feel.
