numbers of bald heads
« on: March 10, 2014, 12:20:40 AM »
I've just returned from a cruise to New Caledonia and Vanuatu, a popular cruise destination ex Sydney, Australia.

The cruise was full with 2000 passengers.  Eliminating females and children I estimate there were around 800 male passengers.  At a conservative count there were around 50 men with shaved heads and at least another 50-70 with very short buzzes.  We are gradually taking over the world.

Interestingly quite a large number of both males and females had tattoos, many multiple.

On the down side about 50 % were overweight and of those about 50% I would class as obese.  Given the amount of food they ate it is not surprising.

Cruise ships do tend to attract the obese like honey to flies on a hot summer day.  How were Vanuatu and New Caledonia?

Did you count earrings on the guys, too?

Funny, I tend to look for sly guys too. BTW, 7 of us at church yesterday. Just saw a local Mazda commercial, only had 2 guys in the commercial, both shaved smooth! I think when the weather warms up here in Minnesota, shaved heads will be very common.

I decided to grow my hair back for awhile, and as usual, made it 10 or 11 days, and well...I'm sly again. It is habit forming.
Bald by choice, and loving it!

There are about 20 to 30 of us among the crew on my ship. And a fair mix of guys with earrings.
Hair is over rated.

The question is has it been like that or are you just noticing? Like when you buy a new car or truck and then see them everywhere?

tobler1 - three of the four beaches we viited were terrific, the other quite rocky.  Vila and Lugaville on Vanuatu have become very tatty while Noumea, although French, a bit tired.

mrzed - yes a number of the shaved heads also had earrings or earstuds (I'm still on the fence!!)

Hingatao - like yourself quite a few of the crew especially waiters and bar tenders were shaved plus a couple of officers and dancers.

Tattooedgunner - I've been shaved for nearly 10 years and the number of shaved heads increases every year.

Its amazing how many men even with full heads of hair shave their heads, or buzz it down all the way. I have also
noticed that men who are 55 plus look much younger with their head shaved. Its gives them a youthful look. Actors like Vin Diesel, Jason Stathem " Hope I spelled that correct" have really opened the door to this type of look. When I was growing up as a kid. Their were not many bald men in Tv and movies. Burt Reynolds has worn a wig since forever.
actors like Lee majors in the 6 Million Dollar man were the craze back then. " Yes I had the Bionic Man toy lol! "
With the exception of a few like Co Jack and a few others. Their were really not many bald men to look up to.

Most bald men back then had the terrible comb over or were bald down the middle with hair growing on the sides
that made them look like grandpa meets Bozo The Clown even though they were still young. So yes shaved, buzzed
is really in style and hear to stay. Plus it really seems more about your total look then your hair these days.

I feel like there is something to this. I've been sly less than a year and I feel like I notice shaved heads more often. I probably notice "horseshoes" and comb-overs even more (think to myself, "just go for it..." but it's their head to do with as they wish).

I'm only 25 so maybe this is an increasing trend that I haven't been around long enough to notice.
