Trying to decide between sly or a hair transplant.
« on: February 26, 2014, 08:36:44 PM »
I am 30 years old and have been on finasteride, minoxidil, and ketoconazole for a few years now.  I am a norwood 3 which means I have recession in the temples that is pretty significant but no bald spot yet.  I know that if I stopped the medications I would lose all my hair and that the only way to restore my hairline is through the surgery I have scheduled for 1100 grafts.

Thing is though its going to cost me over 9000 dollars!  Its an FUE which is a more expensive procedure but doesn't leave scarring.

I will be in debt for so long if I do this but I don't know if I can handle the bald look.  I know a lot of you guys are going to say it doesn't matter but you're mostly married men with kids.  I'm a single dude and being bald makes you invisible to women.

Here is what I look like.  This is a huge dilemma for me and I really would like to just say fuk it to all these crappy meds that have hurt my libido and save my 9 grand and put it down on a late 90's Porche or something badass like that.  I don't know if its worth never being able to get laid again though.

So the drugs have cost a fortune and messed up your libido and yet you are worried that you won't ever get laid again if you go bald?  You're contemplating going nine grand in debt for hair transplants to solve your hair problem?

Yes there are women who are turned off by baldness, but there are others who are attracted to bald men.

My suggestion: spend 30 days sly, see how you and the women in your life like it.  If it doesn't suit you, then pursue other paths.

I suspect there are women in my age group who may not mind baldness, problem is every woman my age is married and/or has kids which of course are dealbreakers.

I don't purposely go after young women but young women are literally all that is available to me and its not going to get any easier when I get older and especially not if I go bald.

Still, there are things I like about being single and I really would love to have a late 90's Porsche 911.

I have to shave my head for the transplant anyways so that will be a good chance to take the challenge.

Problem is I am very Aryan looking my parents are immigrants from Germany and the Netherlands.  One of my grandparents was literally a Nazi who fought against Americans in WWII. If I shaved my head I fear I would look like a neo-nazi and that isn't good when you work with a clientelle that consists of both Blacks and the Jewish.

Welcome, Slychampion.

I must say I am impressed. It isn't every day that a member posts a copyrighted, watermarked picture of himself on the board.

As for your dilemma... You seem already to know of the risks and costs of the path you are traveling, so there is no reason to discuss them. It comes down to what you want to do.

I met and married my wife while I sported the horseshoe. It never mattered to her. Several other members have reported that balding or baldness was not an issue for the women they dated or married. Not all women are interested in just finding a head of hair.

 :'(

I personally know a couple of Jewish guys and a whole bunch of black guys who shave their heads and I'm a bald guy married to a Jewish woman. Dude, it isn't the hair (or lack thereof) that makes people think neo-Nazi, it's what lies beneath. It's how you move through the world. It's how you talk to people and whether you convey peace and harmony or anger and hate.

If you don't want to come across as too Aryan why not take that 9 grand and walk right past the Porsche dealer and sink that money into helping out a soup kitchen or a food pantry. Because it seems to me that all your concentration is directed inward and that makes you come across as selfish which, I'm told, is a big turn off to quality women. On the other hand if you are seen as the type of person who makes sacrifices for the benefit of others who might not be in as good of shape as you seem to be that might end up being a powerful attractant to the type of woman who will not only love you but respect you as well.

P. S.: If your libido is screwed up how is it that you're scoring all these young chicks? Just askin'.

Far from me to say--but, of course, I say it anyway--$9,000 to keep your hair is gigantic waste of money ... and it may not even turn out the way you like.  I'd advise you to stop the treatments and just let the chips--and the hairs--fall where they may.  What's under your scalp and inside your head is much more important than what's on your scalp.

Welcome to the forum....I could go on and on and preach to you, but the posts in front of mine, including yours, covered what I would have said anyway.... but for $9,000....well, your life, your money. What I will tell you, sir, is that you are confusing me....You ask why people don't wear their horseshoe with pride, now you are stuck with shaving for 9000 pennies (at most) vs. 9000 dollars for a transplant that isn't guaranteed to be successful. Just to give you a heads up. We don't entertain pity parties or trolls. I hope you find what you are looking for and I wish you well, but if you're looking to stoke a fire here....It ain't happenin' captain.....So if you go sly or shorter, good luck, if you go for the HT, good luck, but you will make your scalp even worse regardless if you go sly or not....

We all come from our own walk in life but in this case mine was a bit like yours.

I wore a hair program for quite a few years with the cost of replacement each time being around the 3 grand mark. I went

through a lot more than the 9 big ones you talk of and let me inform you that even though your ' treatment ' is somewhat

different to what mine was the expense won't end with an outlay of $9000.

It's difficult to come to terms with. Myself…couldn't sleep, totally preoccupied with my hair, wouldn't go outside, low self

esteem and so on.

However, after I took the leap of faith as it were and shaved I was a new man. I've said it before and I'll keep saying it, the

guys and girls on Sly Bald Guys really do say it as it is and truly believe as I do that you would be better off (understatement

of a lifetime) by shaving down and putting your money elsewhere.

all the very best with your decision mate. You're respected here regardless it's just that most have been through it all and

can see what's coming. Cheers

How long did you take Finasteride? IF you're lucky you haven't castrated yourself. Have you had a t cell count done lately? Might be a good idea and....

....what all the other guys have said and, to excerpt from your own words, you're worrying about scarring. You should be, however else this is marketed, this IS surgery and eventually when the plugged hair follicles die, you may well be scarred.

Get the Porsche or do good works with the money or take about $40 out and buy a Wahl balding clipper or similar. You may find that shaved isn't for you but clippered down to wood is and as to your worrying about being mistaken for a Nazi-when I was young and growing up in South Africa, Rommel was our hero, we thought he was there to get the British out of Southern Africa. I have a friend from Norway who, given your description, is as Aryan as it gets....many people do and your concerns about how you're perceived are nonsense.

Try shaving it before spending all that money, you might like it. Give it the 30 days. If it doesn't work for whatever reason, then try the transplant. But definitely try shaving it first.

As for the Nazi thing, pretty ridiculous. Anton LaVey shaved his head, so does that make all bald men satanists?
