Need advise on an electric razor for lazy shave days
« on: February 17, 2014, 12:49:13 AM »
Hey sly guys, my name is Andrew and I'm 23 years old. I've only been shaving my head for about a month so I'm still getting use to my technique and routine. I've been meaning to make a formal introduction but nursing school and shaving my dome takes up all my time.

Im looking for some reviews, thoughts, and experiences on a reasonably priced electric shaver. I enjoy the razor shave so the electric shaver would only be for lazy days or occasional mid day touch ups. The two that caught my eye at first were the wahl five star and andis profoil. They're both in my price range and I've always seen the two at local barber shops so they must be pretty good. I'm also open to the braun 3 series 340S-4 wet/dry shaver although I'm not sure if the price is worth it because it probably won't be in my daily routine.

If anyone could recommend what direction to go in that would be awesome.

Welcome, Andrew! I have both an Andis and an Andis T-outliner that both give very close clippershaves and give the appearance of being smooth even if there is very slight stubble. I'm sure others will promote whichever brand works for them, but you may have to do some experimenting to find out what works best for you. Good luck with the clippers and in nursing school!

Yeah I understand an electric shaver will never be completely smooth, but does the andis profoil give you a 24 hour stubble or more like 10 hour stubble?

If I had to guess, I would say about 16 hours or so...but only another bald guy would know. Still gives the appearance of a smooth head, IMO.

hi Sir Harry im looking to purchase a pair of clippers for my husband as a gift but I can't figure out which to buy.  I thought I was set on the wahl 5 star. He has the wahl balding and he feels that those don't cut close enough. could you point me to the exact pairs you have. There's just so many different versions and I hate to buy a pair and can't return them. Thanks in advance.

If the braun 3 series 340S-4 is too expensive go for the Braun 3 series 330s-4. It is exactly the same as the 340 except that the 340 can be used in the shower but can only be used by battery!

The 330s-4 can be used via the electric socket as well as via battery. I swapped my 340s for a 330s and it was almost half price!

Welcome, Nina! I can't take a picture of them, but the regular Andis clippers sell for about fifty dollars and can be found in most beauty supply stores. While they don't cut all the way close as a razor, they give an almost smooth feel and the appearance of a smooth head. The Andis t outliner is good on the head but better on the face. Good luck and P.M. me if you have any questions.

Thank you Koolpc and thank you Sir Harry.  Foolish of me to think I would find something for him very easily.  I will look into the braun and andis brands. I will pm you Sir Harry if I get stuck thanks again.

I also forgot to mention that he wants the norelco 3d jet shaver but he wants it for a smoother shave on his head which I think will not work. He barely has facial hair so there is no need for something for his face. I can't even find any info of someone using that shaver to shave their heads.
