that annoying spot on the back of your head
« on: February 03, 2014, 08:03:18 PM »
There always seems to be this spot at the crown on the back of my head that feels like stubble. It doesn't matter what direction or how many times I go over it. It feels slick with the grain but I can feel it against the grain...does anyone know how to get rid of this? I'm using fusion with Crabtree and Evelyn soap and a badger brush...I have thought about putting my 69 Gillette black beauty DE on it,but I'm scared it will take the skin with it too lol..

I have my own spot on the back of my head. I just shave in different directions, but I don't make too much of a big deal out of it. I'm afraid if I go over the spot too much i will end up cutting myself or get razor rash. You can't be too compulsive.  I know I'm getting all the stubble by checking in a mirror.

Yeah what I do to get it smooth is make across the grain passes. Right to left then left to right for good measure.

same here, I also hate the hair line at the front of my forehead, seems like it takes forever to shave.

Thats the thing, we worry about getting a completely smooth finish when in fact a few hours later it starts to get rough again!!!

I have a similar spot, it's like a dip or small valley at the back of the crown of my head.  I work the razor every way, mostly back to front ATG.  I try side to side also, but the "valley" there is such that going side to side means the razor does not contact the bottom of that lower part.  I can feel it now and it feels like the stubble is really pronounced, even though I ask my wife and she says she can't see any.  I always use some extra shave gel at the end and shave it probably 3-4x more than anyplace else, without success.  I know I should just not worry about it, but I do!  I'm constantly feeling it to check on the annoying stubble.

I have 2 patches on my neck at the back. Whatever I try those patches remain rough!

Would a safety razor be a better choice for that area guys?

I am convinced that it is due to the fact we are shaving our irregularly shaped bony heads with a flat razor.  Until a razor is designed with enough flexibility to conform to the odd shapes, the valleys will remain rough.  Our faces have enough soft tissue that the skin will conform to the razor, but not so for the scalp.

I have tried a safety razor and it did not improve the results in the valleys for me.

I've got some pretty serious scars from brain surgery so there are ample spots for stubble to hide near the crown and the back of my dome. Just make sure you don't over shave, that leads nowhere good. I use a DE now; I was getting too much irritation with multiblade carts unfortunately.
