Hello everyone, I'm Michel! 23 years old, from Holland. And...

Enough with the introduction, here's the reason I joined up. Baldness runs in my family, BIG TIME. Mother's side, father's side, doesn't matter... they're all bald. So, the inevitable started at 16 or 17 when I first noticed the receeding hairline at the sides of the front, and it all went downhill from there. I've been trimming it short since then, but the hair on top has been thinning so badly as of late, even that doesn't look good anymore. It's really depressing. Realizing it's something I have to get over, I went searching for comfort on the net, and stumbled across this forum. I've read some of the topics, and although the idea of razor shaving my head never seemed worth the trouble, you guys already made me reconsider! I want to try it sometime, just to see if I can regain my confidence by going SLY! One thing though, I've got kind of a sensitive skin. I don't think the skin on my head will like the razor very much... Anything I can do to prevent a rash?

Welome aboard

! I'm new here as well, but I've been shaving for a long time. I think you should just do it man, you've got your hair short already, and cost-wise, keeping your head bald is around the same price as a haircut or two every month. You will need to try differnt shaving products to find which is most comfortable to you (cuz thats all that matters). I use the fusion power razor with "king of shaves" oil. I like the oil as many other guys do because it lubricates well, and it preserves your blades. You can also use shave gel/cream on top of a thin layer of oil if you wish. But like I said, just experiment, and you'll find which products work best for you... Keep us posted

Welcome bonomel, glad you found us. To answer your question about avoiding a rash, check out some of the threads under Head Shaving for different things that have helped the various brothers. Personally I have found that using a new blade and good shave gel or lotion such as HeadSlick can really help. Also a really cold rinse immediately after shaving can help to minimize irritation and bumps. Again, check out the variety of routines and continue to ask questions of the brothers here...all are glad to help.

Welcome bonomel. There is definitely a lot of good information to sift through on this site. You should definitely try the blade. You would be surprised, but generally I think people are more likely to have skin issues when shaving the face vs. shaving the head -- 2 totally different surfaces.

bonomel...welcome 2 the sly fraternity. when u do decide 2 do the deed, remember NOT 2 use a cheap razor. cheap razor=bad shave. always go w/ a quality razor such as a fusion, mach3, or headblade. definitely search around the forum 4 some tips in the headshaving section like paul mentioned earlier. anyways.... if u have any questions....just ask us anytime... that is what we r here....2 help and 2 support one another on being sly.

bonomel, welcome to Sly Bald Guys!! Try shaving your head, but using one of the products that many of us use in our shaving routines. If you search for Routine, you'll come up with the topic. Also, make sure you don't use too much pressure, as this is usually the main cause of nicks, bumps, and irritation. Have fun bro and let us know if we can help you out.

Welcome bonomel!
I also have to agree (based on personal experience) with Stew:
generally I think people are more likely to have skin issues when shaving the face vs. shaving the head -- 2 totally different surfaces.
As someone who has difficulties shaving their face well I can honestly say I have never had an issue with shaving my head. Just go slow and use little to no pressure... if it's not close enough you can always lather up and do it again. Good luck!

Welcome bonomel. I have found that since I switched to shaving in the shower, I have less irritation on both my head and face,
