Seborheic Dermatitis

Any members here have any experience with Seborheic Dermatitis? I discovered I had it after I shaved my head back in March. I went to the dermatologist and she prescribed some topical medication. It didn't work so I tried two other prescriptions -- both didn't do squat. These break outs take the fun out of being sly

Schro had shaved his head and the Seborheic Dermatitis went away!  So I wonder if having hair or not really matters in terms of having it.  I had it in my late teens and early 20's.  I ended up using a shampoo called Zincon.  But I don't think they make it anymore.  When I still had hair, I then just used plain old Head and Shoulders.  I especially haven't had a problem since I have been sly.

bronco..... hope your dermatologist can find other medications 4 your skin condition because the sly dome suits u.  i'm sure there is some topical ointment or oral medication.

Bronco, Marshall is right. I suffer from S.D. and when I kept it sly, the S.D. went away. Prior to going sly, I got a prescription of Loprox (I think that's what it was called) and it helped. I would also use a spray bottle of diluted vinegar (hold the croutons) to kill the crud that develops on your scalp (since it's a yeast your body produces, the spray really helped). All that being said, NOTHING beat the relief I got from keeping the dome nice and sly.

The S.D. was at its worst in the winter months when the air was cold & dry.

During the summer months, it's not too bad. I have done the vinegar/water spray just to check and it has been fine. The real test will be the fall & winter when the weather changes.

Just make sure you wash your head before you go out for the day. You don't want to walk around smelling like salad.

Hi all, I am new here but I have been shaving my head for about 12 years now.

I was checking the boards out and came across this thread and decided I had to register and post.

I had Seborheic Dermatitis all growing up, it was a constant struggle and the build up would at times be visible. It was terribly embarrassing and I was very self conscious of it. the dermatologist I saw said it should begin to go away as I got older.... well it didnt.

I had to try a ton of different treatments just to get the crap off my head and out of my hair... then I would have rash like seeping areas on my head where the build up was... I fought this until I was about 23 or so and my hair began to fall out.

Yeah... oatmeal scalp and a balding... Go me!

I went through about a year of battling baldness and Seborheic Dermatitis.

The Seborheic Dermatitis cleared up for a bit and I tried rogain... big mistake... that stuff was like 80% alcohol and burned terribly on my rash like scalp.

At this point I had been treating it regularly and keeping it somewhat under control so one night I said ****-it and took to my head with the clippers.

I washed and shaved my head untill it was clean and red with irritation. It literally hurt, I was at my wits end and just did not care anymore.

but as I kept it shaved, clean and used aloe and other moisturizers it helped keep it down and after awhile I had a normal bald head that would occasionally get some redness (in patches) but it was a relief to have that finally gone and have someone rub my head without a borderline fist fight with me.

I have been happily bald for years now and even though sometimes I feel out of place being a bald head in a sea of hair, I never regret shaving and ending the Seborheic Dermatitis fight I had when I had hair.

My Seborheic Dermatitis is completely gone for the most part now ( still get some occasional flaking like dandruff if I let my hair grow out (1/4" is really letting myself go).

Keep it shaved and clean and take it for walks in the sun and I am sure your Seborheic Dermatitis will (if nothing else) be under control.
