A Sly Day at the Barbershop
« on: December 20, 2013, 03:37:02 AM »
Once again, I fell by the wayside and went a week without shaving...So yesterday, after work, I went up to one of my friends' barbershop. It was surprisingly empty considering on Thursdays, he stays open until 8pm. So I walked in and told him...the usual (shave the head and only the underpart of the beard (I'm trying to grow a wider beard). So while I was in the chair a second guy walks in and goes to one of the other barbers (there were three barbers) and he too said....I'm not liking the bald fades I've been getting, but since that guy there is getting a headshave, I think I'll try one too! (he was thinning, but not that badly). A third guy walks in with a nice sized beard and asked the barbers "Do you do straight razor headshaves?" He had a good amount of hair on the sides and back but the horseshoe area was very thin. I found it a little funny at first given there were two guys getting razor headshaves and he asks the obvious, but then he sat down in the third chair and that barber said. I'm going to have to clipper you first, but I can give you a razor headshave...The guy with the horseshoe said that he had been wanted to go sly but no barber that he went to would give him a razor headshave....I guess not all barbers use razors for whatever reason, but even the head barber (my friend) said that I have never seen three people getting a headshave at the same time in the seventeen years my shop has been opened! I think it's a good thing that sly is becoming an option as a haircut! I didn't stay long enough to see the finished product on the other two guys but just the thought of seeing two first-time sly guys made me feel good.... O0

Fun story, Sir Harry. It's a shame the barber did not think to capture that in a picture.

All I could think of while reading was how during this season, this was a great example of "Three Wise Men."
"A man who has lost his hair and is bald is clean."
Leviticus 13:40

Had I known them already, I would have asked for a picture, but for obvious privacy reasons I didn't ask...I did mention SBG while I was there and they said they would check us out.....Let's hope one, the other or both does!

Awesome story SIr Harry. Thanks for sharing. There are a lot of barbers here that don't do straight razor head shaves. Fortunately I have found a couple of barbers that do them. I like to go in to a barber every now and then for a professional head shave. I like to be pampered every now and then. I usually pick a few pointers on how to do a better job myself as well.
I have only been in a barber shop once where another guy had just finished getting a head shave.

I think that the thicker beard will look great on you.

Very cool story!  What are the odds of that?

Locally, I cannot think of one barbershop that offers straight razor shaves, no matter what you want cut down. Sad, really.

Sir Harry, you obviously made an impression on these two guys.  Good Story!

Inspired me to change my profile photo to one of my barber shop head shave back in the summer.
