Here's the thing..
When I first shaved my head by the ATG method.. I suffered loads and loads of razor burns and skin irritations.. that sort of like small pimples on your head kinda thing...
Ever since then..
I have had always shaved by WTG and obviously I can't get a hairless head.

Now that I just got myself a new razor (Mach3)...
I am fiddling with the idea of trying to risk my head by shaving ATG..
Should I?
What would you do if you were in my shoes?

I would try it again. It may be that your scalp just needs a little time to toughen up.

I had the same problem with lots of razor burn the first time I shaved. Used an electric shaver for awhile, which did a great job. Tried ATG with a razor in some spots every few days. After about 2 weeks, my scalp toughened up enough to use a razor ATG. Just remember to use very little pressure with the razor.

I would say, be sure to use sufficient lubrication. Perhaps 'Shave Secret'. or coconut oil or olive oil, etc.

Use plenty of shave cream of headslick.

Don't SCRAPE your head at first. Go against the grain, but take it easy. 

Then after shaving be sure to use a lube. Something like head slick glossy or one of the Nivea head creams or hand cream for the head. Or another coating of coconut oil.

I agree with Mrzed about using plenty of shave cream (or whatever).  Also, make sure to rinse out the razor frequently and don't push down.... let the weight of the razor do the work, gliding along the slick surface.

Use some shaving oil or baby oil under your shaving cream to help reduce friction. And not to much pressure on the blade. An ice cube rub is pretty awesome as well.

Today is only my second day sly, but I HAD to go ATG to get a smooth head. First time ever and no razor burn other than a little on the neck. Don't be scared, I was but was like "hair, you're coming of whether you like it or not" and went for it.

Try using short strokes, don't add extra pressure to the blade. Bloodshed is a right of passage, no matter what your skill level sooner or later there will be blood but how much depends on how careful you are.

Just shaved ATG yesterday. It was a bit better than my first attempt.
After much youtubing on shaving head, I realized the important of being extra careful on the head.
And I did a personal comparison, I prefer the Mach 3 rather than the Fusion.

My first attempt was with just a bar soap.. haha.. no shaving gel or whatever..

Now, I have a Gillete shaving gel, Nivea Post Shave Balm and a Nivea Moisturizer thing..
I also have had just ordered that recommended TendSkin product.

Nice job, Ridzky! BTW, after you shave, make sure you put something in the form of aftershave on your scalp. Also, rub your head with an ice cube after you shave to stop irritation.

As in, I saw that aftershave product at my usual pharmacy shop..
Didn't realize that was needed as well...

I use plenty of shaving soap (or HeadSlick) and go in long strokes with no pressure. Letting the razor glide is an important part.

The ice cube trick I do as well. (Sir Harry's posts on it got me thinking I would try it and I love it). It helps close the pores and soothe the skin. Then after lightly toweling excess moisture the lube comes out and a little dab goes a long way. I do add a dab of solid pat of aftershave (it reminds me of going to the barber's...even though I only went to the bathroom lol)

I think once you get into a good practice you'll have minimal issues. I find I still get skin flaking, however it's really dry and has been quite cold which I think adds to its appearance of late.
